All right, welcome to Irreligiosophy. I have lost count of the number of podcasts we have this is a podcast in the teens maybe 20

Maybe I don't know I stopped counting after we hit three. We are going to try to make this video that we

watched interesting for our audience. Did it put you asleep?

It tried. It did its absolutely best.

I mean the subject matter was interesting. It was why we believe in gods and this guy, we'll

have a link on the web page. This guy theorized that belief in gods and the

supernatural is a byproduct of some cognitive mechanisms that were designed for other purposes.

And I love how he says he makes fun of Richard Dawkins and other people for using

these terms, like they're supernatural agents, but he of course uses the term design.

Yeah, I mean, it's fascinating, fascinating to actually look at the subject matter, but I gotta tell tell you that guy is not a good presenter

presentation whatever yeah if you guys don't want to watch it it's an hour long

he's not a very good lecturer.

So we'll summarize it for you and hopefully we can squeeze an hour of summary out of an hour lecture. It's going to be pretty difficult.

Well, I think it'll be a lot easier for us because if he pulls up a slide, he just reads off of the slide and then continues forward.

We're actually going to expound on some of these things.

Yeah, yeah, we'll go into it a little bit more.

And he, I believe he was either a psychologist or a psychiatrist

because a lot of the stuff he was saying

is right out of like Psych 101.

Yeah, see that was my initial thought as well.

This guy's got to be some sort of psych major.

So his main thesis is that we have evolved certain mechanisms and they're actually kind of hijacked by other things.
