Hi this is Steve. We've talked about so many great filmmakers on the cinnophiles.

From the meticulous mastery of Stanley Kubrick to the wild genius of Orson Wells or the crowd-pleasing

craftsmanship of Stephen Spielberg and of course

Alfred Hitchcock the master of suspense but there is no career in film that I've

approached with more trepidation and awe than that of the great Akira Kursawa.

Korsawa can be epic or intimate.

He can tell a story of elegant simplicity or almost overwhelming majesty.

His touch can be light as a feather one moment

and hit you like a hammer in the next.

Few films have stunned me with their sheer visual power more than Ron. Few films have challenged me more than

Rashaman or move me like Ike-Roo. And no film has done all of that at once more powerfully

than Seven samurai.

This is a career unlike any other.

His films are incredibly influential with more remakes and reimagining than any other filmmaker.

And yet, as entertaining as some of those copies might be

They all pale to insignificance when compared to his stunning originals

And so the Synophiles is devoting an entire month to the work of this great

filmmaker starting this Friday with an episode devoted not to a single film but

to the man himself. Then next week we begin our exploration of

his masterpiece seven samurai. This will certainly be a two-parter or maybe even three.

Finally we'll finish off the month of Corissawa with a commentary track on a film of your choosing.
