Today I'm going to continue the parable of the sower and discuss the final thing that

the thorny soil uses to choke out the word sown among the thorns.

And here's the quote from Mark 418 and 19.

Now these are the ones sown among thorns.

They're the ones who hear the word and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of

riches, and the desires for other things entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unrupl.

Last couple of weeks we covered the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches.

So today I'm going to talk about the desires for other things.

First, remember that these are those who hear the word.

They're not those who have not heard the word.

So we can assume we are not immune to these same temptations.

All three of these things are related to discontent, worry about many things, the cares of

this world, the lies of riches and all their false promises, and then today it is discontent

itself.

What else can the desires for other things be that open discontentment?

I think of the opening scene and sense and sensibility when the heir to the estate is

whaddling down the amount of money he will leave to his father's wife and two daughters.

He starts out with a generous amount in mind and his wife begins talking him down to what

is in the end of very pitiful amount.

This is how the word is choked and becomes unfruitful.

We may start out with great plans, but discontent comes in and wrecks our plans, our effectiveness,
