Hey there. So how did your summer garden of 2020 end up going? Well, not so well? I've heard from a lot of people and it sounds like the results have been mixed. The truth is the results are mixed in most of our gardens, I think. I don't think many of our gardens have had total fails or total successes. And that's the beauty about gardening.

One of my favorite things to do at the end of a growing season, whether that's a spring

0:27.9

garden, a summer garden, or a fall and winter garden is to reflect and evaluate how my garden

0:34.4

actually went. Little by little, what worked, what didn't, what successes did I have,

0:40.6

what failures did I have, and what can I learn from it? But not only me, what might you be able to

0:47.2

learn from the successes and failures in my garden? And maybe by hearing some of mine, you'll gain

0:53.6

new tips, new tricks, new warnings, things that don't work. And maybe by hearing some of mine, you'll gain new tips, new tricks, new warnings,

0:55.7

things that don't work. And maybe it will help you in your own method of evaluating your own

garden for this year. In both this week's and next week's episodes, I am going to be going over

the successes from my garden this year, from my summer garden in particular, and my failures, which are just lessons that I can learn.

Today we're going to be talking about the successes, but make sure to listen in next week because I've got some pretty dismal failures as well.

Hi, I'm Jill, in 2013 I started my first garden having no background, knowledge, or experience whatsoever. Now I am embarking on

1:38.0

my eighth season of growing my own vegetables, fruits, and herbs, and I'm proof that you don't have

1:43.1

to have decades of experience

1:44.5

to grow your own garden, big or small. I certainly don't know at all, but I can share what I've

1:49.8

learned and bring guests along who can offer much more wisdom than I have. I'm so glad you're

1:54.8

here at the Beginners Garden podcast today. Let's dive in. Even though my summer garden hasn't completely wrapped up yet, we don't typically get

2:04.1

our first frost till late October, early November, and my summer garden still has vegetables

2:10.1

in it.

2:11.1

I can still look back and see what went well and what didn't go well over the season,

2:17.4

and I realize that if I don't get

2:19.0

these written down, then I'll forget a lot of it. I will, and you will too. So I would encourage
