Okay. Welcome to Surf Splendor. I'm your host, David Scales. I'm going to start today's episode with a quote from John F. Kennedy.

Quote, I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea,

except I think it's because, in addition to the fact that the sea changes and the light changes and the ships change, it's because we all came from the sea.

And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same

percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and therefore we have salt in

our blood, in our sweat, in our tears.

We are tied to the ocean.

And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch it,

we are going back from whence we came, JFK.

That quote was provided by today's guest, Dr. Chad Nelson,

the CEO of the Surf Rider Foundation.

The Surf Rider Foundation's mission is simply, quote,

to protect and enjoy the world's ocean, waves, and beaches

through a powerful activist network.

That network consists of 250,000 activists among 85 chapters

focused on five main initiatives.

Beach access, clean water, coastal preservation, ocean protection, and plastic pollution.

Today's guest, Chad Nelson, will enumerate some of the campaigns that Surf Rider is actively engaged in to defend those initiatives.
