What's up and welcome back to Surf Splender.

David Scales here, your host of the show.

I've got a slightly amended format for today's show. The main part of the show is surf news with, of course, my co-host, Scott Bass. But the first 30 minutes of this episode are actually a conversation that I'm having with Roger Heinz, surfboard shaper, Roger Heinz. If you listen to this show with any regularity at all, you know who Roger is.

I have an actual profile piece with Roger, like a full one hour plus interview with Roger, detailing his history as a board builder.

But more recently, I had him shape a couple of surfboards for me and we documented that

process on this show both my ordering of them photos that he took along the way during shaping

and glassing the boards and then I had a conversation with him on this show about one of the long

board of the two boards and then he also made

me a shortboard so this conversation is meant to discuss some of the aspects of that shortboard the design

features how that board's been going for me and then roger also opens up just more about all sorts of other stuff

in this conversation. So enjoy the first 30 minutes with Roger Hines. And then I'll pitch to

Surf News with Scott Bass and I. A lot has happened in the world of Surf News. One of the things

is that Surfing Magazine announced yesterday that they will no longer be printing their magazine after 50 years of production.

They're going to go online, all digital.

So big news out of the surf industry.

And Scott and I do discuss that in the episode.

And the reason why I'm bringing it up now is I had a flippant response to Scott when he asked me about it in the show. I acted like I

didn't care. And then I opened my computer after we were done recording. And I read this

Facebook post that Pete Terrace posted. And Scott and I mentioned Pete in our discussion. Pete is the photo editor of surfing magazine.

He has been and he's worked with him for 20 years. So I read Peter's Facebook post and it was so

moving. It was basically just a memoir of Pete's time at surfing.

And I felt like an idiot for being so flippant.
