0:00.0 | Welcome to the Feminine Podcast. This is Nancy Wilson. Thanks so much for joining me today. |
0:11.5 | The topic today is family. One of the things that's very striking to us after living here in this |
0:20.8 | Christian community for several decades is the wonderful way that Christian families take care of |
0:28.3 | one another, which is what we're supposed to do. Families are God's appointed first line of |
0:34.5 | defense when someone is sick or in trouble. And then our fellow saints are the second line of |
0:41.6 | defense. Taking care of one another, it turns out, is what characterizes us as believers. It's |
0:48.8 | almost like two different levels of family. Your own flesh and blood family, your relatives, |
0:56.7 | and then the Christian church, your brothers and sisters in Christ. |
1:01.6 | Jesus said in John 1335, by this, all will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one |
1:09.9 | another. This love for one another is our uniform. And on the flip side, Paul writes to Timothy |
1:19.5 | in 1 Timothy 5-8, and says, but if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of |
1:26.8 | his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. So not only is loving one |
1:36.0 | another, the Christian's uniform, but not providing or caring for your own family, drops you down |
1:43.7 | into the category of worse than an unbeliever. I mean, even unbelievers take care of each other, |
1:51.0 | so how much more should the believer? When a Christian fails in this duty, he sunk to the very |
1:58.2 | dangerous position of denying the faith. So this should give us pause. I'm going to give you a few |
2:05.3 | examples of what is happening in our congregation. And none of these examples are the result of someone |
2:12.5 | pressuring family to take care of their own far from it. And we only see the tip of the iceberg. |
2:21.7 | You know, we know of some of the things going on. We've seen some of it firsthand, but there's |
2:26.7 | so much behind the scenes, the total tonnage of giving and loving is staggering. So I hope you'll |
2:34.2 | be encouraged by this like I am. Hebrews 1024 says, and let us consider one another in order to |
2:42.4 | stir up love and good works. So I hope that this little podcast will stir you up. |
