A roadblock for drivers this Memorial Day weekend after Kentucky State Police closed Highway 55 for several hours Saturday morning after a Barts Town police officer was shot and killed on the on-ramp off the Bluegrass Parkway on the Highway 55 at exit 34.

This is the first police officer in the history of the Bardstown Police Department to be shot and killed in the line of duty.

One year after a schoolteacher and her 16-year-old daughter are discovered brutally murdered in their home,

family and friends gather to remember Kathy and Samantha Netherland.

It was the morning of April 21st that had changed everything for 20-year-old Holly Netherland.

The past year has brought only heartache and questions.

I want to know why.

Why would somebody go and attack my sister?

Why would somebody shoot my mother?

You walked in their door and wanted something my mother would have handed it over in a split second.

Kathy had been a beloved special education teacher at Bardstown Elementary School.

Samantha, a sophomore, was weeks away from her high school prom.

State police say 54-year-old Tommy Ballard was shot while hunting with his grandson off Ed Brent Lane near Barnstown.

There's still a lot of unanswered questions, but now troopers are hoping the community

might have information about his death.

We just want Brian Crystal, Tommy.

Crystal Rogers' parents vowed not to give up the search until she was found.

But state police say her dad, Tommy Ballard, was shot and killed while hunting on his

property with his grandson early Saturday morning.
