Summary

Modern anxiety isn't just emotional. It's chemical β€” and it's being triggered and sustained by the way we're living, consuming, and overstimulating ourselves every single day.

In this powerful, personal episode, Elizabeth pulls back the curtain on what's really happening when we feel anxious for "no reason" β€” and shares the neurochemical truth about dopamine, oxytocin, cortisol, and inflammation.

If you're constantly in your head, overwhelmed, overstimulated, or one step away from panic β€” this conversation will shift everything.

You'll also hear the exact strategy Elizabeth is using to reclaim peace and presence in her everyday life β€” without deleting her business, becoming a monk, or pretending life isn't loud and full.

πŸ’₯ You'll Learn:

  • How dopamine dysregulation leads to anxiety (even on "good" days)

  • The shocking impact of low oxytocin and high cortisol on your mood

  • How digital overstimulation mimics trauma and keeps your body stuck in fight-or-flight

  • Why stillness feels unsafe β€” and how to change that

  • Specific, realistic ways to reclaim mental clarity and calm without meds

  • The #1 boundary shift Elizabeth is making β€” and how it's already helping

Welcome back to the Primal Potential Podcast. I am Elizabeth Benton. Thanks so much for joining me

And one of the primary changes that I am focused on in 2026 is way less input, which is a little

0:51.8

ironic because I'm a podcaster who loves podcasts and I love books

0:56.3

and I love information and I love technology, especially the way that it allows me to connect

1:01.4

with people that I'm not physically proximal to.

1:05.6

But I want to get really personal with you guys today.

1:08.8

I mentioned last week on the show about how I asked myself

1:12.7

this question around feeling frustrated with my frustration with my children. And I ask myself,

1:19.4

like, hey, what's driving this? What's going on here? Why am I finding that I'm quicker to frustration with my kids than I want to be?

1:29.3

Why do I feel like they're irritating me more than I'm enjoying them?

1:34.5

And certainly, I love them and I enjoy them and they're wonderful.

1:37.1

But I was just in a season of irritation and frustration with them, which no doubt is

1:42.2

influenced by the fact that my twins are three years old

1:44.1

and three is tricky. And three times two is trickier. But I asked myself this question and one of the

1:50.5

things that came to mind was my cell phone. And if I'm listening to a podcast while I'm cooking

1:59.3

dinner and then the kids come tearing through the kitchen,
