I'd like to welcome to the Soapurrful podcast, Dr. Claudia Black. Welcome.

Hello. Thank you for having me today. You're welcome. Well, I want to tell you a little bit

about Dr. Black because this is a subject that I don't feel is talked about enough. And Dr. Black

is really one of the world-renowned experts on this area. So Dr. Black

PhD is a world-renowned expert on addiction and codependency, best-selling author and

trainer, internationally recognized for her pioneering and contemporary work with family

systems and addictive disorders. Since the 1970s, Dr. Black's work has encompassed the impact of addiction

on young and adult children. So we're going to talk about your, well, this is a very well-known

book, especially in my field. It will never happen to me, growing up with addiction as youngsters,

adolescents and adults. And what we're really talking about here is how addiction affects children and how it affects them as they grow up and become adults.

I personally have felt that this is a neglected area that especially children don't get enough support when they are affected by the adults

around them using alcohol and drugs. And I'm sure you probably feel the same.

Very much so. And they've been a forgotten group of people for many years. When I first actually

wrote this book many years ago, they were a totally non-recognized population.

And now you might hear people, you know, make reference to children of addiction.

But in terms of really intervening in their lives and really giving them precedence, that's not happened, even after all of these years.
