Day 4: The Myth of Momentum & the Power of Staying

You don’t need more motivation.
You need more butt power.

Yes, butt power. As in: stay on your butt. Don’t escape when it gets hard. Don’t jump ship for something shinier just because this path lost its sparkle.

In today’s episode, Elizabeth shares the powerful story of an elementary school teacher who taught her students that the moment they feel stuck is the moment to stay. And how that principle — staying with the thing — might be the single most undervalued key to your consistency.

Here’s what we get into:

  • Why novelty isn’t a solution but more often avoidance

  • The difference between energy that comes from hype and energy that comes from habit

  • The illusion of a “new start” when what we really need is follow through

  • How to identify where you keep abandoning what would actually work if you just stayed with it

  • A powerful call to abide: to stay connected to your convictions when the feelings fade

💡 You’re not failing because you’re incapable. You’re just walking away too soon.

🎯 Don’t just listen — do. Grab today’s journal prompts here and walk through where you need to build staying power.

And if you’re tired of walking this road alone, the Consistency Course is your place for support, structure, and momentum that lasts.

Hello, everybody. Welcome back to the Primal Potential Podcast. This is day four of our mid-year

0:37.2

pivot point. If you have not listened to days one

0:40.2

through three, please do. Today is about staying power, staying with what matters, especially when

0:49.1

it stops feeling exciting. I heard this story about a teacher, a math teacher at the elementary

0:56.8

level and she noticed that when the kids were struggling with a math problem, that is when they

1:04.2

were most likely to suddenly need to sharpen their pencil or go to the bathroom or get a drink of

1:09.4

water. And she noticed this again and again and

1:12.9

again that as soon as it got hard, as soon as they felt stuck, they wanted to get away from it.

1:18.7

So she started teaching this concept to her elementary students that she called butt power.

1:26.3

And what she meant was, stay on your butt.

1:29.3

Resist the urge to get up and move away, work through it, stay with it until you get to

1:35.6

the other side.

1:36.6

Ask for help if you need to ask for help, but don't get up.

1:40.5

Don't indulge the distraction.

1:43.7

And I actually wrote about that in chasing cupcakes because

1:46.4

I think that it has so much application in our own lives that when things get tough, when

1:52.9

things get tricky, when things feel slow, we're out, we're on to the next thing,
