Summary

Five years years ago, upon completing my Psychology Ph.D., I began holding retreats and workshops to support Mormons in faith crisis, and specifically to help reduce anxiety, depression, suicidality, family strife, and unnecessary divorce for those experiencing a Mormon Faith Crisis.  For many of these workshops and retreats, I was fortunate to co-present with Natasha Helfer Parker and Margi Dehlin.

In August of 2019 we decided to hold a weekend retreat and record the entire experience ,including the attendee participation.  This is that retreat, which was held from 8/30 to 9/1/2019 in Salt Lake City, Utah. 40 audience members participated.  The following topics were addressed:

  • Understanding and Navigating a Religious Transition
  • Fundamentals of Mental Health in a Religious Transition
  • The Key to Healthy Relationships: Emotional Intimacy
  • Healthy Sexuality After a Faith Transition
  • Conscious Parenting
  • Communicating with Believing Family and Friends

We hope you enjoy this content.  It is the best insight we can share to help you navigate your religious transition.

Finally, a HUGE thanks goes to Clint and Jeni Martin for underwriting this event.

And I've done about 50 of those workshops and retreats over the past five years with Natasha Elfer Parker and sometimes with my dear wife Margie DeLin.

These events have been super useful to people. We've been told that they've saved marriages, they've saved lives.

0:43.9

And most importantly, they've been really helpful in helping people navigate their religious faith crisis.

0:50.8

And honestly, it's some of the best content I've ever created to help people. And when I do coaching, when I do workshops, when I retreats, I pretty much always draw from this content.

1:00.8

So because right now we're in a pandemic and because there are people flooding my email with the desire who need coaching, who need support, who are struggling in a faith crisis and need support,

1:14.8

we've got all this amazing content that we have shared over the years that people don't know about. And it hasn't been shared on Mormon Stories Podcast.

1:25.8

In the past, people have paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars to attend these workshops and retreats.

1:30.8

And fortunately, thanks to the generosity of Clint and Jenny Martin, who I partnered with on Thrive, we actually did an entire retreat back in August of 2019.

1:42.8

We did an entire retreat and we filmed it. And we didn't just film it, we actually not only filmed my presentations with Natasha, but we also filmed the audience participation.

1:55.8

And so we have a whole 2.5 day retreat recorded. And what I want to do during this coronavirus thing is just share it with everybody.

2:04.8

And I'm just telling you, this is some of the best content that we've ever created.

2:10.8

The various topics that we cover include introductions where the attendees of the retreat give a really brief introduction to their situation.

2:22.8

We've recorded all of that. These are really created, courageous, thoughtful, you know, Mormons and Faith Crisis.

The next presentation is me with Natasha supporting me talking about understanding and navigating a religious transition.

There's a presentation on the fundamentals of emotional of emotional intimacy. So basically the key to healthy relationships with your spouse, with your children, with your in-laws, with your extended friends and family.

That's a really important presentation as well. Then we do after we do emotional intimacy, then we end with presentations on communicating with believing family and friends, conscious parenting and healthy sexuality.

So over the next week, let's just say I'm going to be sharing this content both on Facebook Live and on the Mormon Stories podcast feed.
