preaching for the long haul. Preaching for the long haul. I was on a panel recently,

and the question came up, what have you done over the years to maintain or sustain your preaching?

What have you done?

What do you do to enable you to preach over the long haul?

Everyone in the discussion had been preaching for many years and the question

was just how do you hang in there and how do you maintain a sense of freshness a fresh ministry

a meaningful ministry a faithful ministry over the long haul.

I was taking her back by the question, to be honest with you.

I was shocked by the question.

I only benefited by the fact that others jumped in and began to answer the question before I could get to it.

And by the time it got down to me, I was able to kind of think through what I wanted to say.

To be honest, it is not something that I consciously think about on a regular basis.

We look back over ministry and give thanks to God for sustaining you over the various

dangers, toils, and snares of ministry.

Of course I do that.

But I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it, but it is a very good question nonetheless.

I know that it is a question that matters to me because of the high regard I gave to long

pastorates. My own father pastored the church I grew up in for some 40 years.
