Wednesday October 2nd. As Israel vows to retaliate against Iran, fears of an

all-out wider war are growing.

Iran launched its largest ever strike against Israel last night,

firing about 200 ballistic missiles that were mostly blunted

by Israeli defenses.

Tehran says the attack was in response to the assassinations of Hezbollah's leader

and Hamas's political leader and said it doesn't want a war with Israel.

CNN's Kylie Atwood says U.S. officials are in regular contact with Israeli officials,

but they aren't calling for restraint like they have in the past.

They are very clearly saying that they will green light a response by Israel.

I think the reality right now is that U.S. officials see what happened yesterday as distinctly different from the attacks from

Iranian proxies because Iran, a state actor, is now directly involved here.

Citizens in Iran say they're fearing a massive attack

from Israel and retaliation with one saying he's asked his family to leave the

Capitol. Last night's vice presidential debate between Ohio Senator J.D. Vance and

Minnesota Governor Tim Walls struck voters as something that's become rare.

The candidates, for the most part, were nice to each other.

That's what a focus group of undecided Michigan voters told CNN's Phil Mattingly after watching the debate.

I haven't seen a debate like this in a very long time.

They supported each other. They were kind and it was warm and fuzzy. I mean you could watch it and not be offended by the words they were using towards each other.

Fresh off the heels of their debate, Vance and Walls are campaigning in swing states today.
