For the first time since the 1980s, South Korea's president has declared martial law.

Through this martial law, I will rebuild and protect the Free Republic of Korea,

which is falling into the abyss of national ruin.

And a TV address, President Yun Sukyo accused the country's main opposition Democratic Party

of sympathizing with North Korea and of anti-state activities.

The Democratic Party has a majority in the South Korean Parliament, and the Jan-Hap News Agency

reports that its leader called the Declaration unconst Parliament, and the Jan-Hap News Agency reports that its leader called

the declaration unconstitutional, while the leader of Yun's own party said Yun's declaration

was wrong, and 190 lawmakers have voted to block the martial law decree. The chairman of the

country's National Assembly says that makes it, quote, invalid and calls

on Yun to immediately lift the martial law.

It's unclear whether the country's president will comply with the vote, which he is required

to under South Korean law.

But a Korean newspaper reports martial law troops have started withdrawing from the parliament

building.

President-elect Donald Trump will return to the global stage this weekend,

after he accepted the French president's invitation to attend the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral.
