Thursday December 14th. It's rare for Western journalists to get access to

war-torn areas without a military escort.

But CNN's Clarissa Ward got to go inside Gaza for the first time

since the war began.

She traveled with a team of medical volunteers

who are working at a field hospital in southern Gaza.

The hospital's almost at capacity, as Gaza's health care system is collapsing,

amid heavy Israeli bombardment following Hamas's terror attack. For an ambulance.

That's a real light.

And this is what you hear all the time now?

Yes.

At least 20 times a day.

Another thing doctors tell Ward they get used to

is the number of children they treat.

Like an 8-year-old named Janette

who survived a strike on her family home,

but her femur was crushed.

20-year-old Lama is recovering from her right leg being amputated.

After she followed Israeli military orders

to flee from the north to the south,

just to have their shelter hit by an airstrike.
