Hi there from CNN, I'm Chris Debeau with the five things you need to know for Thursday, December 14th.

Israel has canceled a planned trip to Qatar to restart talks on a second hostage release deal.

A source familiar with the negotiations tells CNN the head of Israel's foreign

intelligence was supposed to go on the trip. Stephen Cook from the Council on

Foreign Relations Think Tank says the cancelled meeting shows Israel's

priorities in the conflict may have changed.

There is some speculation that some good number of those people are not a lot.

And it's clear also that the Israel Defense Forces as well as the government are not willing

any longer to subordinate their overall operation and their overall goals of

destroying Hamas for the benefit of trying for the benefit of those families who are waiting to hear

about their loved ones.

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is set to meet with Israeli officials today

as tensions continue between the White House and Benjamin Netanyahu's government

over the high civilian death toll in Israel's war with Hamas.

The list keeps growing.

More colleges are facing federal investigations after alleged incidents of discrimination on campus, joining Harvard, U Penn, and Cornell.

The Department of Education is now looking into Stanford, UCLA, Whitman College, and Rutgers University, among others.
