I wonder sometimes with rule one where we are giving every dollar a job if you don't

imagine yourself as fairly authoritarian, where you assert your authority over your dollars.

And I wonder, sometimes all other benefits of giving and generosity aside, I wonder if giving is the ultimate in assertion of authority.

I wonder if when you give, you're kind of telling all of your money, like, hey, look at me, I don't need all of you.

I don't even need all of you.

Look at this.

I'm just letting some go for no direct, right, direct benefit to me.

But maybe that indirect benefit to the giver is just that you gain authority and stature in your dollars eyes and your

dollars maybe pay you a little more respect. I mean sheesh. If that guy didn't

need those dollars over there. He maybe doesn't need me. Maybe I should behave and act accordingly.

So the giver in giving generously asserts the ultimate authority and as a result gets a huge psychological

win where they can say, I don't need all this money I think that in and of itself may be worth

the generosity worth the giving aside from all the other societal benefits and personal benefits that may come your way.

So think about that next time you're giving. Is it a little bit liberating and do you feel like you letting go is empowering. Perhaps it makes you appreciate the dollars you have,

perhaps it makes you recognize that they aren't so all powerful after all.
