Hello, whinnebers. My name is Jesse Meekham and this is podcast number 115 for you need a budget where we teach you

0:15.8

full rules to help you stop living paycheck to paycheck, get out of debt and save more money.

0:22.0

Today I want to talk about dieting, just kidding. I want to talk about

0:26.7

moving the needle and fasting. When you go on a spending fast, which is what I'm proposing, you're trying to move

0:38.1

your needle and create a new state of rest. You're wanting to create a new average, a new normal. So in addressing this, you might

0:52.4

say, you know what, I'm going to do a little spending fast,

0:55.2

I'm not going to eat out for a week, or I'm not going to eat out for a month, or I'm not going to eat out

1:00.9

for three months, whatever it is, whatever would move the needle.

1:03.4

If you eat out once every three months already, that would not be what we're talking about here.

1:08.4

But if you find, for instance, that you are buying your lunch every single day, and you'd like to maybe do that less you go on

1:17.2

a spending fast and you tell yourself you know for just a short time I'm going to be

1:22.4

a little bit extreme. My coworkers are going to raise

1:25.6

their eyebrow at me. My spouse is going to say I'm crazy. My kids are going to wonder

1:31.8

what's happened. That kind of crazy. Happens with dieting and people swing back, right? They swing back the other way.

1:38.5

I don't want you to do this to where you're going to always and forever be just absolutely miserable. I just want you to move

1:47.0

the needle to where if you're cutting out bread from your diet, you cut it out, a whole just cold turkey, no more bread, for a week or two, and then reintroduce

1:58.9

the bread. But you'd be surprised that you've probably cut down on your bread consumption.

2:04.4

I do this a lot. I tend to adopt something. I go a little extreme with it and then I back off naturally or Julie tells me to back off which

2:14.8

everyone happens first and it works it'll move your needle it'll change your

2:20.3

average where you'll say you know I used to eat a ton of bread or I used to eat out all the time and then I went on this fast where I didn't eat out for an entire month and I realized this this and that and I learned X, Y, and Z.

2:32.8

So now I do this a little different.

2:35.8

Now I cook at home a little more often.
