It's a pleasure to speak with you today and I'm Cori Allen. It's a pleasure to speak with you today and I have got a legendary guest today on the podcast to share with you all.

Robert Thurman is the man, he is the legend, and he's had quite a crazy life.

He's been a friend of the Dalai Lama for over 50 years. He told me a funny story about when on the

podcast you know he tells me how he whenever he was younger that he desired to be

a Tibetan monk and that his teacher at that time told him no that he would not be a good one.

He ended up going to Tibet. He met the Dalai Lama. His teacher then again told the Dalai Lama that he would not be a good monk and so do not make him one.

Over time, the Dalai Lama told Robert, okay if you'd like to be a monk I'll make you one. He did and then very

briefly after that Bob renounced his monk hood and got married.

So his first teacher was right all along.

He founded the Tibet house with Richard Gere

in Philip Glass, and that is the U.S. Cultural Embassy for the Dalai Lama.

He is a professor of Indo-Tibetin studies at Columbia University, and he's been a major

force in translating Buddhist text from Sanskrit to English and

he also happens to be the father of Uma Thurman which is a cool fact.

This is a rule of this is a whirl pool of conversation. You know, Bob is like this living

electrical wave of thought and energy and I mean he's such a character such a wonderful just incredibly

learned and experienced and traveled person so at the beginning he's definitely a live wire, you know, that's for sure.

In the beginning Bob Erzzzema's frustrations with the current state of world politics,

but after that we move through a kaleidoscope of topics about living in the present moment,
