Thanks for joining me today.

The topic today is cowardly mothers.

And the specific application I'm thinking of today

regards disciplining the kids when they're little and how to do it.

First, the Bible says Proverbs 22, 15,

foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child.

The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

When we were bringing up our children in the Lord,

we took this verse at face value.

We had a spanking spoon and the kids knew what it was for.

And I can look back with real gratitude to God

that our children learned wisdom and did not grow up to be fools.

That that rod of correction drove it far from them.

We expected that we would need to teach our children wisdom.

They were not born with it.

In fact, foolishness is bound up in their hearts.

Godly parents are God's means of driving this foolishness far, far away.

Parents are God's appointed means, not the neighbors, not their school teachers.

We expected them to be obedient, self-controlled little people

before they ever entered a classroom.
