Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is today in Parliament from BBC Radio 4.

For Thursday, the 11th of September, when the Conservative said Sekeir Stama still had questions to answer,

following the sacking of Lord Mandelson as the UK's ambassador

to the United States.

This is yet another extraordinary error of judgment by this week, Prime Minister.

A Foreign Office Minister says new information led to the sacking.

The depth and extent of Lord Madison's relationship with Geoffrey Epstein

is materially different from that known at the time of his appointment. And one MP predicts

doom for the UK's life sciences sector. Companies have been pulled towards the US with

incentives and tariffs, while we have no detailed industrial strategy, an uncompetitive tax

regime from the Treasury. But first, Lord Mandelson has been sacked as the British ambassador to the

United States over his links to the paedophile Geoffrey Epstein. At Prime Minister's questions,

Kirstama had been challenged to say what he knew about the friendship when he appointed the former

Labour Cabinet Minister. The Prime Minister, under pressure, after documents revealed that Peter

Mandelson had once described Epstein as his best pal, insisted he had confidence in his pick

as ambassador, and told MPs due process was followed when he was appointed.

Less than 24 hours later, the Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty,

who'd been forced to appear in the Commons to answer an urgent question,

announced that Peter Mandelson's diplomatic career was over.
