Today I'm going to talk about submitting to God. We call Him Lord and as His people,

we obey or submit to His Word. But we also submit to Him in situations and circumstances.

When we meet with wonderful answers to prayer, we praise and thank Him, don't we?

But when our plans backfire or when He answers our prayers but not the way we hoped,

we must also praise and thank Him. This includes the little things like a cancel flight or a flat

tire or big things that are far more important like the health of a loved one or a broken

engagement. It also includes when people sin against us. He is Lord. Everything is under His

sovereign control and in everything we are to thank the Lord. It's easy to rejoice and thank the

Lord when He answers our prayers in a way that pleases us, but it's difficult to rejoice and

thank the Lord when He answers in a way that is not what we had hoped. But this is a big part of

the Christian life, so we'd better get it understood and we'd better get good at this. I can

remember times when I have wrestled to get my heart under God's feet. I'm not wrestling with God.

I'm wrestling with myself. I was disappointed for some reason, but I knew I needed to submit to God.

And so I prayed, thanking God for the hard providence and getting my will to receive it with grace

and to be able to amen God's decision. I reminded myself of how much He loves me and the sacrifice

Christ made on the cross to purchase my salvation. His love is beyond anything we can comprehend.

And when we remind ourselves of this great love, we can bring our disappointments to Him and

receive comfort peace and relief. Now, I don't even remember what my specific struggles were,

but I do remember the peace coming when I could submit myself entirely to God in it.
