0:18.5	Sometimes people ask if you have a favorite Bible verse, and I think it's really difficult to pick
0:25.0	out a favorite with so many thousands of wonderful Bible verses. But one that I am fond of
0:32.0	among many others is 3 John verse 2. Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in
0:40.4	health just as your soul prospers. This verse is a blessing and a prayer that John prays for his
0:48.2	friend Gaius. He is asking God to give Gaius an abundance in all things. What a sweet prayer.
0:55.5	And what a sweet prayer that is, if it stopped right there, but he goes on and be in health.
1:03.2	When we all know what a blessing it is to be healthy and not sick, but I particularly appreciate
1:08.6	the last part of this blessing. He's asking that God bless Gaius on the physical level,
1:14.5	health and prosperity, in the same measure that he's blessing him on the spiritual level.
1:20.7	In other words, may God use the prosperity of his soul as a measure to bless him externally.
1:28.9	He is assuming a prosperous soul already. So I thought it'd be good to talk a little bit about
1:34.4	what it means to have a prosperous soul. What characterizes a prosperous soul? Psalm 1 sums it up
1:44.0	quite nicely. Someone verses 1 through 3. Lest is the man who walks not in the counsel of the
1:51.2	ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the squornful. But his delight
1:58.2	is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted
2:05.2	by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not
2:10.9	wither, and whatever he does shall prosper. To have a prosperous soul, you must be planted by the
2:19.2	river, and that river gives strength and refreshment. A prosperous soul is well nourished,
2:26.2	well fed, well provided for. It is green, not withered. It's fruit bearing, it's growing,
2:32.4	it's providing for others. After all, a fruit tree doesn't bear fruit for itself.
