In this episode, I want to talk to you about preaching themes during a pandemic.

Preaching themes during a pandemic.

I plan out my annual preaching plan each year.

I've been doing this for quite some time.

And in previous episodes of this podcast,

I both advocate and for an annual preaching plan or at least some kind of extended

preaching plan. And I even talk about why and how I do my preaching plan.

I think, first of all, just for the simplest reason, as busy pastors, most of us don't have the time to spend the time that we should be preparing, searching for something to preach.

You need to use every moment you have to prepare to actually prepare.

And that requires that you know in advance what you are going to preach from week to week,

which of course requires that you have some plan for preaching.

However, I don't think that your preaching plan should be ironclad.

The plan is made for the preacher, not the preacher for the plan, right?

According to my own preaching plan, I would be somewhere around Mark

Chapter 10 or 11 right now, and then COVID-19 happened.

And it changed everything.

No, I do not think that the pulpit should be reactionary and chase down whatever is on the news, whatever is happening culturally.

I just don't think the preacher should be a glorified pulpit ambulance chaser looking for a story to preach from week to week. You should have a plan,

and unless you are absolutely, truly led away from it, you should stick to your plan.
