Hi, this is John. This week on the Center Files, we're talking about my favorite 80s film. That's right, my favorite 80s film 1986 is Top Gun, directed by Tony Scott. I'm actually recording this preview right by an air base.

So if you hear all these big sounds, I'm doing it because I'm inspired to record this preview in this location.

It's directed by Tony Scott and of course it stars Tom Cruise in a star making turn,

Tom Cruise.

This is the one that announced him as a superstar and he's still going today.

We've got a Mission Impossible film coming out here in a little bit.

The film also stars Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Tom Scaredt, Michael Ironside,

with appearances by Meg Ryan, and Tim Robbins Robbins if you've got an eagle and

Adrian Pasdar if you want to go that deep in your actor knowledge. It's set at a

top gun school where these Navy pilots are competing to see who's going to be the best pilot.

And of course, Val Kilmer, I can't leave out Val Kilmer as Iceman and Rick Rossovich as his backup there or as a second in the plane.

This is an incredible film for me.

I just want to go back to all the time whenever I'm down, I'm feeling sad,

or like things aren't kind of working out in my life.

I can pop on Top gun and I'm back to

being 15 again I'm back to thinking about the world and all those possibilities

again for whatever reason it really speaks to me it's got a fantastic soundtrack with artists like

Berlin and Kenny Logans and Cheap Trick and some great music all around and yes

there are some maybe slightly homo-erotic things going on there which Clinton

Tarantino wrote a really fantastic essay about. So this week
