And we begin with Hurricane Michael taking his place in the record books

when it slammed ashore yesterday with wind speeds of 155

miles an hour just two miles shy of a category 5, it did so as the strongest

storm to hit the Florida panhandle in recorded history.

It's also the strongest storm by wind speed to hit anywhere in the United States in more than a quarter century.

It will take weeks to assess what is being called catastrophic damage. Homes are underwater, roofs are missing,

and hundreds of thousands of people are without power. President Trump is expected to survey

the damage next week. Controversial quarterback Colin Capranick continues to reinvent himself.

Two years after first taking a knee during the National Anthem,

he's now hoping to trademark a black and white image of his face and hair.

The U.S. patent and trademark application says he intends to use the picture on everything

from shampoo and hairspray to empowerment workshops and perhaps even for movies and

television. First stop though is Harvard. Later today he'll take the stage to

receive the W.E.B. Dubois Medal, which recognizes people who've made significant

contributions to African American culture.

The U.S. Postal Service is Hat in hand this morning, asking for the biggest rate increase in its history.

If approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the cost of a first-class stamp would go from 50 cents to 55 cents. The agency has been losing money for years.

Email is one of the reasons. People just don't mail as many letters as they used to.

On the positive side the post office is making money from all the packages

it delivers for online retailers like Amazon, but whatever it's raking in from e-commerce

is reportedly not enough to make a dent in its debt.
