Last week, high school student Luke Stevens told his history teacher he'd be absent Thursday.

Because Lynn Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of Hamilton, was coming to his house for lunch.

According to NBC News, Ms. Rossner didn't entirely buy the excuse. So Mr. Miranda recorded a video

with Luke as proof. In it, the Broadway star tells the skeptical teacher,

I'm sorry he can't be a US history class right now, but he's with me. We're going to go over

the bill of rights and anything you may be covering. This is not lost time. Thank you for

excusing him from class. It worked. Ms. Rossner is a big fan of Hamilton and was over the moon

with the A-list alibi. Not surprisingly, Luke's history class no show quickly became a no problem.

For students in one US state, getting a COVID shot will soon be a back to school must.

On Friday, California announced it would be the first in the nation to require the vaccine

for all kids wanting to attend class in person. The requirement will take effect the semester

after the FDA grants the shot full approval. For seven to 12th graders, that green light is expected

in January, which means the vaccine will be mandatory by next fall. Kids in kindergarten through

six would be added to the order once the shots for five to 11 year olds get formal federal
