This is John Batchel, conversation with colleagues Steve Yates about a report from the Czech Republic

that a year ago, the Chinese embassy in Prague discussed, planned a arbitrary attack, making it look like a traffic accident or a collision with the visiting vice president

elect of Taiwan.

The revelation points to a very vague understanding that the wolf warriors are still at large, challenging

their diplomatic opposites in Europe and in the United States.

However, as Steve notes, this is surprising because of the scale of the threat and the clumsiness of the way they discussed it.

Well, during the Wolf Warrior period and still today, there has been a lot of escalatory activity to harass dissidents and people who engage in wrong think based on the Chinese Communist Party's judgment.

And Taiwan's leaders, it's elected leaders, they don't get to travel that much once in office to more than a handful of places.

So the opportunities are a bit fewer.

But I still remain surprised that right in the heart of Europe and in a place that is very sensitive to the Cold War freedom movement and sort of the new era coming

out from under the Soviet curtain, that they would even try to open that kind of a wound in that

kind of a place. So I think this is a surprising escalation. In some ways, it's surprising. It took a

year for it to really come out in conversation, too.
