Summary

Anna talks all things natural beauty with Pink Moon Daily's Estelle Hayes, including how to start the transition to healthier beauty products (hint: start with Fragrance Free), how NSNG represents freedom, why anti-bacterial sanitizers are no bueno, and how some actresses are embracing natural beauty on the red carpet. Here is the link to the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetic Database to search for ratings on the products you use every day. Here's an article that Estelle wrote about her top favorite non-toxic sunscreens. Here's a blog post Estelle wrote about her personal journey to natural products. Below is a list of links and notes from Estelle herself, plus some affiliate links Anna created if you are interested in purchasing these products via amazon: JUICE BEAUTY: "I really like this brand (I've used the tinted moisturizer, face oil, and blush stick and have heard great things about the CC cream and liquid foundation." Juice Beauty SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Moisturizer, Sand, 2 fl. oz.Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream, Natural Glow, 1.7 fl. oz.Perfecting Foundation - Organic Ivory 30g/1oz ILIA BEAUTY: "I have on one of their lipsticks and I LOVE it! They are the gold standard in clean lip products. I would highly recommend trying one of their colors to replace one of your go-to brands. Almost all mainstream lipsticks have been tested positive for lead and petrochemicals and a host of other crap you don't want anywhere near your body." ILIA Lipstick - Color - Wild ChildIlia Lipstick Crayon (Karma Chameleon) 100 PERCENT PURE: "I love a lot of their products. Bonus, they have a store in West Hollywood so you can go sample everything yourself before buying. I use their lip gloss (nice colors). I use their face moisturizer and eye cream every single day and love it. Also, their lavender hand cream is really nice. Some of their scents can be a little strong so I highly recommend testing before you buy. But they are a super clean brand and growing into a mainstream retail presence which makes it easier to sell my friends on switching to natural products." 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip Glaze - Peach100% Pure Lip Gloss - Sheer Strawberry100 Percent Pure Nourishing Body Cream 8 oz. ACURE ORGANICS: O.k. we didn't get to this during our talk, but I cannot recommend it enough. I think of this brand as a gateway drug to clean living. It's pretty affordable, easy to find online or in Whole Foods and it's great for the entire family. My husband, daughter and I use the shampoo (Acure Organics, Shampoo, Pure Mint + Echinacea Stem Cell, 8 fl oz) and conditioner, I use the cleansing gel (ACURE Facial Cleansing Gel Superfruit + Chlorella, 4oz) for my face (it's nice and mild), I love their face oil as well. Look, Jessica Alba's company HONEST BEAUTY makes adorable eco-friendly diapers! The Honest Company Diapers Size 3 - Feathers And finally, another good brand for sunscreen: Suntegrity Skincare - Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen & Primer, Broad Spectrum SPF 30

So happy to be back. I'm so glad to have you here. And I thought this would be really fun one-on-one

0:28.7

because, you know, although I think the men folks should listen because you'd be surprised how

0:33.6

many products guys put on their bodies. I have the feeling we'll get mostly ladies listening to this one. So I figured we would just have a good time. No, I think that's great. And you know, the women are the shoppers in the family. So you get to the women and you change their habits and they start to influence the men in their lives. So that's a great place to start. That's so true.

0:55.1

Yeah.

0:55.6

Okay.

0:56.0

So here's what I did a few days ago.

0:58.3

I, and I couldn't believe it, I took a little notebook into the bathroom.

1:02.4

And I wrote down every product that I use on my hair, my skin, my body, I mean, my body,

1:10.2

my face, even down to like the shave cream from Trader Joe's.

1:15.1

And then I wrote down the makeup that I use daily when I have to wear makeup, which the only time, honestly, that I wear makeup is when I have to go to an audition.

1:22.1

Yeah.

1:22.4

Or go out to a dinner or something like that.

1:24.2

Right.

1:24.8

But I couldn't believe the number of products that were on that list.

1:30.2

Yeah, they add up quickly.

1:31.7

And let's couple this with, I'm like every other lady out there who you're constantly

1:37.9

trying to find products at work and it's been that way since I was 15 years old.

1:41.3

I do Birchbox.

1:43.0

Mm-hmm.

2:19.1

Uh-huh. And, you know, Birchbox sends you samples every month. And I literally have like a bowl of birch box things that I kind of like root through, using for travel products. Sure. So this doesn't even count all the birch box stuff. Sure. I get it. I totally get it. And, you know, I mean, I think the average, last time I checked is the average personal care products that we put on our body, women every day, is 12. And I think that's pretty low, actually, when you think about it. Because, yeah, I went through my list a few years ago when I sort of started this journey and I can't remember what my number was, but it was more than 12. And I'm not a big makeup person either, you know, and I don't even work in an industry where I have to get made up.

2:23.3

So it adds up really quickly. So don't feel bad about that. I think that's normal. And then I also
