This is the Bible Book Club, the book of First Chronicles. Welcome to the club.

Last time in chapters 13 through 15, David was busy building the kingdom of Israel.

Near and dear to his heart was the seat of God, the Ark of the

covenant. The Ark needed a home, and that home needed to be in Jerusalem. In Chapter 13, David impulsively

decided to move the Ark without any research on how God dictated for the Ark to be moved. The result

was the death of one of the movers.

In chapter 15, though, David corrected his mistake and the ark was successfully brought to the

capital with joy and celebration. In between the arc moves, news of David's success and

Israel's growth spread amongst the nations. Some nations like Tyre saw Israel as an

opportunity for alliances. These nations sent gifts like cedar logs for building a palace and wives

for building a family. Others like the Philistine saw Israel as a threat and an enemy, which resulted in two

victorious battles for Israel.

Both successes were attributed to the Lord's hand of favor and are an example of how the

chronicler is showing the returned exiles that David was a man after God's own heart and that

they should be doing the same. When we last left David, he was dancing and celebrating before the Ark as it entered Jerusalem

the capital city of Israel, the city of David.

With the Ark, the symbol of God's presence, restored to the center of life in Israel,

the people can return to God's original plan for worship given to Moses. Scene one, Israel worships with sacrifices.

Chapter 16 of First Chronicles. They brought the Ark of God and set it inside the tent that David

had pitched for it. And they presented burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before God.
