Summary

In this episode, we dive into David’s empire-building years in 1 Chronicles 18, 19, and 20. The Chronicler isn’t just telling war stories—he’s stirring up hope. Through every victory and every act of faith, we see that God’s promises still stand. The Chronicler reminds his readers (and us) that God’s faithfulness is constant, our testimonies matter, and spiritual legacies are meant to be passed on. From the battlefield to the throne room, and from David’s generation to ours—God is still...

This is the Bible Book Club, the book of First Chronicles. Welcome to the club.

0:13.0

Last episode, we did chapters 16 and 17 of First Chronicles. Now, let's remember that what the

0:19.5

chronicler is doing here is giving a little

0:22.1

history lesson to the Israelites so that they would return to Jerusalem and come in worship.

0:28.8

So in this history lesson, the ark is safely in Jerusalem. The people of Israel have returned

0:34.5

to God's original plan for worship, which was given to Moses. They worshipped

0:38.6

with sacrifices of burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then they worship with music and songs of

0:44.7

praise. David was also very specific in what they should sing. Remember, David loved music,

0:50.1

and he wrote music. Our chronicler recorded the song that most likely was a compilation of three

0:56.3

different Psalms. With a kingdom at peace and worshipping as they should, David's thoughts turned

1:02.3

to his next project. His desire was to build a house for the Lord, but that was not to be. God

1:09.9

informs David that he would build a house for him,

1:13.1

but not a physical house, a dynasty. The promises God made to David, it's called the Davidic

1:19.9

covenant. The covenant specifies that God will establish David's throne forever. From David would come

1:26.8

an eternal king. David is overwhelmed with God's

1:30.3

favor and he prayed to God with humility, wonder, and confidence that God would do as he promised.

1:37.3

Okay, in chapters 18 through 20, the chronicler continues to tell David's story. In these chapters, it's going to be David's quest to

1:46.9

create an Israelite empire. And it was a quest that involved many conquests. But it was important to

1:54.8

David because God had promised it. And therefore, it is important to our author, for he is intent on the return

2:02.8

remnant knowing that God fulfilled the promise he made in First Chronicle 17 when he made the

2:09.2

Davidic covenant with David. First Chronicles 17 starting in verse 9. And I will provide a place for my

2:16.1

people Israel and will plant them so that they can
