profoundly different than the wars of the U.S. Vite, having to do with the proximity to the

soldiers and the mandate of participating in the military.

Yes, I just departed Israel this morning actually and I was especially struck on this most

recent trip to Israel that when soldiers need to report back to the front in Gaza, if they're coming from Tel Aviv, they can hop in a cab and in 45 minutes they can be on the edge of the Gaza Strip and there's a live

northern front in Israel we don't pay enough attention to this in the United States

from Tel Aviv the center of the country takes a little over two hours to get to the northern front.

And we need to put this in the context that we Americans, especially in terms of our soldiers

getting to war. Since the conclusion of World War II, Korea, Vietnam,

Afghanistan and Iraq, our soldiers have to clamor aboard airplanes and fly 14 hours halfway around the world to get to the battlefields.

If you add to that that the United States has a volunteer army, less than 1% of Americans are in uniform, either active duty or reserves. But in Israel,
