President Trump picks Pam Bondi for Attorney General after Gates withdraws.

Subhead, the former Florida Attorney General, is another close Trump ally.

I welcome Professor Richard Epstein of the Hoover Institution, teaches law at NYU and the University of Chicago. The Department of Justice, much

mentioned in the late campaign, and Pam Bondi, an experienced attorney general of the very

successful state of Florida. Under several governors, he was Attorney General of the very successful state of Florida. Under several

governors, she was Attorney General 2011 to 2019. Since then, she's been both a private

entrepreneur with a lobbying firm in Florida and Washington, but also a member of think tanks,

most recently America First Initiative, think tanks that are sympathetic

to the Republican Party. Richard, a very good evening to you. If I understand correctly,

the withdrawal of Mr. Gates made it possible for Mr. Trump to make an appointment that looks

non-controversial in comparison. How do you measure the former Florida Attorney General? Good evening

to you. Yeah, well, I mean, the first thing to observe is anything other than Matt Gates is

enough. The man was so manifestly uncommon. I don't qualify that it's a puzzle why Trump ever

nominated him. The story that I've heard circulated in the back channels, which I have no reason to believe or to deny, is that Gates was quite happy to get out of the House of Representatives because he did not want that ethics report, and that Ron DeSantis will be term limited out, and then he hopes that he could run for governor on a Republican ticket in Florida, where his support will be far stronger than in his nationwide.

I put that dreadful possibility off to the end,

thinking that Florida has been a very powerful state.

Ms. Bondi has always had a reputation of being somebody who's very tough,

very able, somebody who essentially sort of follow her own lead. And I think the way in which

you could tell that is her activities after she left office in five years ago have been consistent
