Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, nation-state in torment for decades, continuing, now under assault, permanent

assault of the jihadists known as El-Shabaab.

And now we go to a story that is a subset of the jihadist success

over these last decades, which is the prison break.

Caleb, a very good evening to you, thank you very much. The Mogadishu Central

Prison, we're looking at, and there's a photograph accompanying your piece at the

Long War Journal, we're looking at something that looks to have been built by, I'm

going to guess, the colonialists once upon a time. But the prison break was a surprise attack on the

prison guards with weapons, lots of weapons and a firefight. Please help me

understand how the prisoners,

I'm presuming that many of them were gangsters,

but there's also the El-Shabaab

were able to obtain all these weapons and explosives

at a central prison.
