This is a story about an estate, tend to conflate words sometimes.

All right, Aretha Franklin, who, of course, was Aretha Franklin, I mean, one of the most extraordinary singers of all time.

As you know, she died. And she had about a $6 million estate, has about a $6 million estate,

which you would think for someone of that magnitude in terms of show business

would be a lot more than that.

But, you know, $6 million is enough.

So now you have her kids.

And there is one kid that's there from one father

and then two others from another father

and just let's say they don't talk to each other.

And they're both, both sides are going for the money.

Now you would also think that someone

of that magnitude uh of that level of society uh had decent legal advice you would think there

would be a will no written will no written will say okay so the rules of intestacy come down that that is the rules

of someone dying without a will and I've told you about that a lot it goes to the kids first

and if there's someone's married it's between the kids and the spouse in any case so she had no

will except she had a couple of wills.

And what they were is holographic wills, handwritten wills.

And handwritten wills, are they legit? Yeah, they can.

Now, she died in Michigan and the rules of Michigan are about the same as the rules in California.

Some states allow holographic wills.
