Good morning and welcome to Kid News. We're on our summer break, but that doesn't mean

we can't keep those news neurons firing with a few of our favorite critical thinking questions.

Every day we'll bring you a Kid News classic from the past year or so, followed by a

newdler challenge to see if you can make the story your own.

In Portland, Oregon, hundreds of kids and parents spent the past school year following

Sam Balto on his morning bike ride to Alameda Elementary. Mr. Balto, the school gym teacher,

leads the pack in a neon safety vest, blasting pop tunes like Queen's bicycle race from a

speaker in the back. Coach Balto got his inspiration from bike buses in Barcelona, San Francisco,

and Hood River, and believes the once-a-week rides are a quadruple win. They get kids to

school, help with academics and physical fitness, build community, and are good for the environment.

Coach Balto is hoping to turn the wheels of government and get local officials to join the fun.

What could you do to organize a bike bus day for your school? Who would you need to convince to

join your campaign? What would convince the wider school community to join? Write a plan,
