Good morning and welcome to Kid News!

We're on our summer break, but that doesn't mean we can't keep those news neurons firing

with a few of our favorite critical thinking questions.

Every day we'll bring you a kid news classic from the past year or so, followed by a

newdler challenge to see if you can make the story your own.

Today we're headed back to April of 2022, when scientists announced that they had completely

sequenced and assembled the genetic code that makes us all uniquely human.

As one researcher said, putting it together was like taking a book, ripping it up, then

trying to piece it together again.

Why does it matter?

Solving this mystery will help scientists to figure out how and why some people get diseases

and others don't, and hopefully to develop drugs to fight them.

Imagine that the scientists learn something very unexpected when they look through the genetic

code.

What could that be?

Write a short story, beginning with this sentence.

When scientists set out to sequence the human genetic code, they thought they would just

learn about how to fight diseases.

It turned out they learned something far more important.
