2026. And we begin with voters in six states headed to the polls today and one of the busiest

primary dates of the 2026 midterm election cycle. California, Iowa, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Dakota are all

holding primaries for offices ranging from governor and U.S. Senate to lieutenant governor, attorney

general, and secretary of state. California stands out with several high-profile contests,

including an open governor's race with a whopping 61 candidates vying for

the job currently held by Gavin Newsom. Under the state's primary system, the two candidates

who receive the most votes will advance to the November 3rd general election, regardless

of which party they belong to.
