Today is Monday, April 19th, 2021, the start of National Volunteer Week, and we begin

with a middle of the night masterpiece on Mars.

Just a few hours ago, ingenuity made good on its mission to lift off and hover a few inches

above the red planet for the first ever powered flight on another planet.

The chopper didn't go high or stay afloat long, but it didn't need to.

The goal was to prove otherworldly flight possible, and it did.

The signal bringing word of success from Mars to NASA took three painstaking hours from

3.30 to 6.30 a.m. eastern time, and when the good news finally arrived, mission control

erupted in cheers.

In a nod to history, ingenuity carried a small piece of fabric from the Wright Brothers

1903 flyer, meaning a piece of the first powered flight on Earth flew again during the first

powered flight on another planet 118 years later.

If you haven't heard of them yet, you're about to.

There's a new bear in town, and it's called the Pizzle.

Like the name sounds, it's a cross between a polar bear and a grizzly, and the only reason

these two found each other apparently is climate change.

Warming weather is chasing polar bears from their remote sea ice homes inland where they're

meeting and greeting a whole host of new friends.

The hybrid babies that result are reportedly more resilient to climate issues and better

suited for warmer temperatures.
