Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Friday, April 16th, 2021, and

we begin with a new discovery rocking our planet to its core. For years, scientists believe

that Earth has four layers, the crust, the mantle, the outer core, and the inner core.

Now comes word of a possible fifth layer, a finding so huge that textbooks may have

to be rewritten. It doesn't have the coolest name, but geophysicists from Australian

National University say they found what they're calling the innermost inner core, a mysterious

vault that may hold secrets to how our planet was formed.

Studying what goes on down there isn't exactly a cakewalk. According to Science Alert,

the team had to analyze data from thousands of models and observe how seismic waves travel

through each of the Earth's layers at different speeds. Those waves reportedly changed within

the inner core, causing scientists to suspect that all this time there's been another

unknown layer right under our feet.

The University of Southern California had its hands full with a college cheating scandal,

now it's dusting itself off from another headline. According to 24-7 sports, a young man

who doesn't attend the school snuck into the football stadium, hopped in a jacuzzi with

some of the players, ate a meal with the team, grabbed a football helmet and jersey, sauntered

onto the turf, and proceeded to feel punts. It was only then, hours into the ruse that

a staffer realized the young man did not belong and escorted him out. Sports writers close

to the story say the school is now reviewing and tightening security.

It's not news the needle shy want to hear, but Pfizer's CEO now says a booster shot will

likely be needed within nine to 12 months of getting fully vaccinated. And after that,

he expects will all need a shot a year, just like we do for the flu.
