Politica reporting that, quote, President Donald Trump endorsed the idea of a 25 cent per gallon gas tax increase at a meeting Wednesday with lawmakers

Apparently the gasoline tax would be phased in over the next five years. It would apply to both

gasoline and diesel and it could raise more than 350 billion dollars in government

revenue to spend on infrastructure. The current gasoline tax in the United States federally is

18.4 cents per gallon and for diesel it's 24.4 cents per gallon. So this would be a

considerable increase over the current level of tax on fuel.
