Good morning and welcome the kid news. I'm Tori. Today is Thursday, January 17th,

2019 and we begin with another first for the US government. In a letter to

President Trump, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is suggesting he delay his upcoming State of the Union address.

The speech, traditionally given once a year before a joint session of Congress, is supposed to take place on January 29th, but Ms. Pelosi

says the ongoing shutdown has created security concerns for the event.

She's offered to work with the President to reschedule the speech after the government reopens.

Other options?

The president could deliver his speech in the Oval Office or simply give it to Congress

in writing.

As of Wednesday night, the White House had not yet responded to Speaker Pelosi's request,

but the Department of Homeland Security says it is fully prepared to protect the President

and all members of Congress should the speech go on as planned.

In other political news, Attorney General nominee William Barr

may be on the hot seat this week,

but it's his eight-year-old grandson Liam Daly who's captured the spotlight.

As his grandfather answered hours of questions before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Liam

sat patiently behind him in a suit and tie. At one point Senator Dianne Feinstein

stopped the proceedings to compliment Liam on his staying power and even sent some

snacks his way. And during the breaks the bold young man commandeered and entertained

lawmakers on his own. A handwritten note that's gone viral sums up Liam's opinion of

the day. Dear Grandpa, I love you so much. You are doing great so far. I'm having so much fun. Love Liam.
