So tonight's going to be a really fun night at the Chrysler Center.

Game at 8 o'clock against Ohio State.

Always fun when Ohio State's in town for any sport.

Needless to say, there's that part of it.

But there's the other part, which is the fact that it is the Trey Burke jersey retirement

ceremony.

And I've had a lot of nostalgia on my mind in the last little bit because this was a long

time coming for Trey.

He is one of the greatest players to ever do it here for the Maze and Blue.

I mean, he was, that was all a consensus player of the year

he was phenomenal that uh that sophomore campaign when he led the wolverines to the national

championship game and the shot was clean the block was clean and all that kind of stuff

but it really got me what it really got me thinking about was because of where Michigan basketball was.

You know, going back to the late 90s when the obviously the downturn started in the 98-99 season.

And I know they're asterisk on this season anyway, but Michigan goes 12 and 9 in the next couple of years under Brian L.R.

They go 15 and 14 and 10 and 18. He gets let go and they bring in Tommy Amaker.

And despite the fact that Tommy goes from 11 and 18 to 17 and 13 to 23 and 11, that third year did not make the NCAA tournament.

And then after a down year at 13 and 18, they went 22 and 11 and 22 and 13 in back to back years. But again, no NCAA tournament. And that was the end of the Tommy Amherker era. And it was an era of almost and not quite. And then we started all over again. And we're going to have a chance to see and hear from, I know the media is going to have a chance to hear from, and I'm assuming at the arena at some point we'll all have a chance to see and maybe hear from the head coach that came in in 2007 and took over the program. And that first year, and actually two of the first three years were pretty rough. That first year, Michigan goes 10 and 22 in John B-Line's first year. The second year in 2008-09 season, Michigan goes to the NCAA tournament, and they get to the second round. I remember that one that year. That was a fun year for their first trip to the tournament. The next year, though, they were back down sub-500 again in 2009 and 2010.

And around this time is when I was hosting the John B-Line radio show and going through those experiences with him as well.

But it was right after that.

The team started to have the upswing again.
