Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have great news to share … (00:52) Lee Gilley — the Houston man accused of strangling his wife, killing her and their unborn baby — has been officially indicted by the Grand Jury. This is a big deal — especially considering he’s yet another man with resources who seems to think he can buy his way out of consequence with a pricey defense team that includes the likes of Robert Durst’s attorney, Dick DeGuerin, and maybe even an image consultant, based on his public behavior as of late.  Also on the show, Mandy and Liz take listeners on their first deep dive into the killing of (11:15) Scott Spivey of Tabor City, North Carolina. Thirty-three-year-old Scott was shot to death in a hail of bullets in September 2023 on a rural highway in Horry County, South Carolina. His shooters were never charged in his death and the case was closed in April 2024. This week, investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — broke news that a second Jane Doe case had been filed against Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller, accusing him of sexually abusing a 14-year-old student at Cathedral Hall Academy (formerly known as Grand Strand Academy), a school owned JP’s father Wayne Miller, who is named as a co-defendant in the case.  In 1999, when JP Miller was 20 years old he allegedly molested the child after inviting her to play piano with him alone in the church sanctuary. The girl told a teacher about what JP allegedly did and instead of the school offering the child help, she was forced to write “I will not lie about JP Miller” 5,000 times.  Mandy and Liz break down the latest allegations against the Millers and share text messages between JP, his ex-wife and Mica from 2022 or before that addresses the child sexual abuse allegations against JP.  Also on the show, part one of the history of the Millers’ alleged scheme to use their school as a staging ground for abuse. Investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — broke major news this past Tuesday with the announcement that Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at his father’s church, Cathedral Baptist Church (formerly All Nations Church), in 1998 and again sexually assaulting her in 2023.  The lawsuit was filed by Jane Doe No. 1 against John-Paul Miller, Reginald Wayne Miller, and their churches, including Solid Rock Ministries. Mandy and Liz share details of the lawsuit while connecting the dots on what was happening in JP’s life at the time.  Plus, they sit for an interview with Rock Hill attorney Randy Hood of McGowan, Hood, Felder and Phillips law firm, who is representing Jane, to learn more about Jane’s case and what the world of litigating institutional child sexual abuse looks like. Hood is no stranger to suing churches on behalf of sexual assault victims. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell continue their deep dive into the Mica Francis case in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Today’s episode begins with a clarification concerning Mica’s divorce attorney Regina Ward and the settlement terms reached between JP Miller and Mica’s family this past summer. Also on the show, in a press conference in June 2024, Regina Ward shared a list of abuses that Mica allegedly experienced at the hands of Pastor JP Miller … alleged abuses that mirror a proposed coercive control law that failed three times to make it out of state legislative committee. In that press briefing, Regina said that had this law been enacted before Mica’s death there was a possibility it could have saved her life. Mandy and Liz take another look at the proposed law and a provision that seems like it would have protected JP more than it would have protected Mica. Plus, JP is up to his old antics and has filed 10 new civil lawsuits against an assortment of protesters and content creators. Less than three years before Mica Francis’ body was found in a North Carolina swamp after her alleged suicide, there was another strange death near Solid Rock at Market Common, the Myrtle Beach church that belonged to Mica’s husband Pastor JP Miller. That’s the death of Chris Skinner, the 41-year-old quadriplegic man who was married to the woman JP was allegedly having an affair with at the time — the same woman JP has routinely been photographed with since Mica’s death in April. Chris was found in his wheelchair at the bottom of his neighborhood pool. The Bowen Turner case in South Carolina has been one for the outrage records. Leaked medical records from Mica Francis’ in-patient and outpatient visits to mental health facilities were leaked to the public over the past week, and investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are diving in. According to the records — some of which were sent directly to Luna Shark Media and others that were posted online by a TikToker sympathetic to JP Miller’s plight — Mica was confused about her diagnosis and its symptoms. At the same time, these records raise questions about how Mica was being treated and where clinicians were getting some of their information about her alleged behavior. His remaining son, Buster Murdaugh, filed a defamation lawsuit this week against major networks over documentaries they ran, which he said falsely insinuated he had something to do with Stephen Smith’s death. Also, a federal judge issues an order in the Nautilus case, in which the insurance company who issued a multi-million dollar payout to Cory Fleming in Gloria Satterfield’s death is suing to get their money back.
