AI is a revolution on scale with the printing press, the internet, and the television, if not all 3 combined. While some aspects of this are positive, there is a much more worrying question underneath it all. What do you do when AI can do the jobs of most entry and mid-level employees, making the jobs of millions of Americans obsolete? Once upon a time, gambling was something done in back rooms and smoke-filled basements. Now? One in five Americans has a sports betting app — right next to their Bible app. In 2024 alone, Americans legally wagered nearly $150 billion on sports. Nearly all of it — 95% — was done online. No dice, no bookie. Just tap, swipe, lose. For over a century, both American law and Christian conscience agreed: gambling was a vice. Not merely a private sin, but a public threat. It corrupted sports — from the 1919 Black Sox scandal to Pete Rose. It bankrupted homes. It bred addiction. So in 1992, Congress passed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, barring states from legalizing sports betting. The goal was to shield young people, uphold the integrity of sports, and slow the spread of a morally corrosive practice. That restraint lasted 26 years — until the Supreme Court struck down PASPA in 2018. Since then, we’ve witnessed a cultural transformation: not a thoughtful reappraisal of risk and reward, but a full surrender to the gods of revenue, entertainment, and ease. And that surrender has been lucrative. Lobbyists promised lawmakers untold tax revenue. Tech companies engineered betting apps that are frictionless, addictive, and nearly impossible to close. Now, children can stream an NBA game and place a live bet on who misses the next free throw. The app encourages it. So does the league. But is it just harmless fun? A little added thrill to the game? Or is it something deeper — a system designed not to entertain, but to exploit? When gambling apps track your every wager, target your weaknesses, and make it easier to bet than to withdraw, is that still freedom — or is it a new form of bondage? And what happens when Christians get pulled into that system? For centuries, the church understood games of chance as morally precarious, if not downright dangerous. Not because randomness is sinful — after all, “the lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord” — but because gambling treats chance as profit, and profit as providence. Matthew 9:27-34 intentionally contains a theological irony: the physically blind recognize Jesus as Messiah, while the religious leaders in Israel remain spiritually blind. In other words, these blind men see more than the sighted. Specifically, they see Jesus as the promised King from David’s lineage (2 Samuel 7; Isaiah 11). “Son of David” was an explicit messianic title. Lastly, their cry is clearly rooted in faith, not entitlement. They plead for mercy, not merit.

Shortly before His ascension, our Savior commanded his followers to "Go and disciple all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," and to teach them "all that [He] had commanded them." In pursuit of this command the Apostles and their successors commenced a multi-century struggle to preserve the faith once delivered and declare it to the nations. These men, our spiritual fathers, laid the foundations of the Church and preached the Gospel to every city they could, frequently inviting the wrath of the pagan authorities for upsetting the pax deorum, the peace of the gods. Most of the Apostles would be martyred, along with many later men like Polycarp of Smyrna—a bishop and disciple of John—and Cyprian of Carthage.But divine providence would change this state of affairs over a mere few decades. Not long after the Diocletian persecution of the early 4th century, Flavius Valerius Constantinus, or Constantine the Great, would ascend to dominance over the Western half of the Roman Empire. Constantine would adopt the Christian faith, and by consequence he would set off a chain of events that saw the increasing fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah, that the Law would go out from Zion, and the Lord would judge between the nations.His successors would solidify his Christian measures, culminating in the declaration of Nicene Christianity as the official faith of the empire through the Edict of Thessalonica, delivered by Emperor Theodosius I in A.D. 380. Though paganism did not disappear overnight, these decrees oriented the Roman state and eventually other European kingdoms towards the full dominance of Christianity in all parts of their kingdoms, to the point that even our mere knowledge of various pre-Christian folk religions is patchy—sometimes pure conjecture.It was by these means that the faith would dominate Europe, and through the European empires be exported across the globe. Further, the intellectual development of the faith that we enjoy today was done under the patronage of princes, guaranteeing the time, resources, and security necessary for theologians of old to exercise their gifts. Right versus left. Democrat versus Republican. Liberal versus Conservative. These are the terms we are all too familiar with that practically serve to symbolize the political struggle between good and evil, freedom and tyranny, or big and small government. But if the last 50 years of politics have proven anything, it’s that these labels mean shockingly little. Whether it’s Reagan opening the nation’s floodgates via amnesty under a Republican elephant or the supposedly anti-big corporation Democrats mandating an untested vaccine, both ideas functionally operate as little more than two sides of the same coin. The yard sign changes every four years, but the underlying assumptions and commitments to liberal democracy don’t.Yet when you trace the intellectual formation of the American conservative identity you find that wasn’t always the case. Something happened in the ’60s and ’70s that broke our connection to our English, Anglo, and Protestant past and made America into the degenerate war hawk it became in the ’90s and early 2000s. Committed to a defense of Israel and esoteric readings of the Ancient Greek philosophers, influential academics like Leo Strauss and Harry Jaffa—alongside journalists like Irving Kristol—birthed a powerful new flavor of conservatism that took root in the American consciousness.This supposedly right-wing political thought had little differences with the left in its embrace of liberal democracy and equality, but served its purpose in turning America into a dominant foreign adversary alongside a compelling narrative about its embrace of creedal nationhood and the peoples of the world. But as the downstream effects of decades of universal suffrage and propositional nationhood come home to roost, neoconservatism offers shockingly little substance in the way of resistance or conserving our Christian European heritage. Populism and revolution are on the rise, and the strong gods are coming home.It’s time to stop calling ourselves conservatives and falling into the same dialectical trap again and again. We are not neocons and we are not interested in the solutions of Mitt Romney, Ted Cruz, and Mitch McConnell. Like the Founding Fathers who risked it all to forge a new, self-governed future, we also need real and potentially radical solutions to our dilemma. It is commonly assumed that Christianity rests upon the foundation of Judaism. Douglas Murray, best-selling author of The War on the West, recently commented: “Western civilization could not survive the destruction of the Jewish state, because it would be, among much else, the cutting away of the whole tree we're on. Western civilization would die.” It is reasoned that since the Old Testament forms the bedrock that the New Testament and Christ rest on, it would be impossible to do away with Judaism without also threatening the moral, legal, and theological edifice that the Christian West rests upon.But inherent in this assumption is a failure to distinguish what Judaism actually is. Judaism is not just Old Testament only, as if they are only working with the same scriptures and laws that David and the prophets had. Rather, in less than a millennium from the giving of the Law at Sinai, a rabbinic tradition began to develop that cut away at the commands, worship, and reverence due to God. It replaced mercy with loopholes, God’s authority with man’s tradition, and instead of faith, a convoluted legal system meant to trick God in their favor. By the time of Jesus’s ministry, 1500 years removed from the giving of the law, barely anything resembling true religion and worship remained.So today we are unpacking the source of these rabbinic teachings: The Talmud. What does it say? What does it teach? First generation warfare is fought with sticks and stones. Brute force, kinetic damage, and show of force. Second and third generation warfare is fought with attrition, logistics, blitzkrieg, and disruption. In Afghanistan and Iraq we fought fourth generation warfare: insurgency, terrorism, and psychological operations. With each successive generation, the lines between combatants and non-combatants blur, direct attrition becomes rarer, and tricks of deception and misdirection become all the more important. Today, we are in a 5th generation war: a war of information. Cybernetic tools such as AI, analytics, and information systems manipulate narratives, public perception, and sow discord. The line between the real and the artificial blurs, and entire battles are won without kinetic force. Information is the new oil, and the battlefield is everywhere and anywhere. Imagine if you viewed the ascendant right—from mainstream figures like Auron MacIntyre and Candace Owens to the outskirts like Nick Fuentes and Dan Bilzerian—as an existential threat to your democratic project. You need to get ahead of it, fast. But the censorship you enjoyed during COVID is pretty much done thanks to Elon Musk, and their narratives and cause are picking up steam. You could attempt to run containment manually and hire thousands of agents to identify threats and shut them down. But if the IRS’s track record is any indication, it's a tough job—even hunting down unpaid taxes—with a $14 billion budget and 33 district offices. You need something better, faster, and more discrete. If we are in the 5th generation warfare, how about a private company focused on deep analytics and intelligence augmentation? And say this company had existing contracts with the CIA, DHS, NSA, the FBI, and a dozen other government agencies going back over a decade? Christ is the Author of salvation, and his Word is the means of salvation. For the Gospel is “the power of God for salvation” (Romans 1:16). And in Matthew’s case, the call of Christ was an effectual call. He immediately got up and followed Jesus without hesitation or delay.

This morning, Pope Francis, the 266th pope of the Roman Catholic Church, died. Francis was the first Pope from the Society of the Jesuits and the first that was born outside of Europe since the 8th century. Since being elected in 2013, his time as Pope was marked by a strong humanitarian agenda, with an emphasis on climate change, opposition to the death penalty, advocacy for decriminalization of homosexuality, and criticism of anti-immigration policies. He was heavily criticized throughout his time by conservatives both inside and outside the Catholic Church for policies and statements that seemed at odds with the historic and traditional teachings of the church on marriage, homosexuality, immigration, and the death penalty. But now, with Francis’s passing, a new Pope will be elected. Roman Catholicism is still the largest Christian tradition, numbering 1.4 billion adherents to Protestantism’s roughly 800 million. It holds massive amounts of land—over 150 million acres worldwide—and billions of dollars in real estate, stocks, and bonds. In short, it’s not going anywhere. But even with all of its assets, it still sits in a precarious position. The young members of the Roman Catholic Church are shockingly conservative. According to the New York Times in 2024, “In an era of deep divisions in the church, newly ordained [Roman Catholic] priests overwhelmingly lean right in their theology, practices and politics.” Local dioceses are bursting at the seams with young families and conservative men who are fed up with modernity and uninterested in a rock concert at the local megachurch. We often speak of this connection in terms of knowledge, values, and history. It is something objective and measurable. But what if we are bound together to our family, our home, and our country in even deeper ways? Traducianism is a historic Christian belief that has been a minority view throughout church history, although it was held by some notable church fathers like Tertullian and Reformers like Luther. Traducianism is the belief that the souls of children are inherited from their parents, like two candles coming together to light another candle. In this view, parents give not just their genetics to their children, but pass on a unique, personal spiritual component as well. In this way, memories, affections, vitality, and other spiritual qualities are passed down through the families and time, shaping each family and nation into a distinct ethnos with its own unique spiritual properties. Even myths and archetypes that we know so well in the West live on in our deepest memories, their details lost to time but their form continually re-presented in our stories, ideas, and even dreams. Last year we did an entire livestream on how the Biden administration chose to celebrate Easter, most notably by declaring March 31, Easter, as Transgender Day of Visibility. It was the inauguration of a new religion, but one that in God’s grace appears to have been short lived. A mere year later, with Trump in the office, we got a robust, theological celebration of Easter from the highest office in the land. Not just well wishes or platitudes about God’s love for us, but an assertion of how in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ we have redemption and forgiveness for our sins and the hope of eternal life. Now in the midst of every “we’re so back” is an “it’s so over” moment. This year, while the threat to Easter is certainly not as pronounced and obvious as under the Biden presidency, a new, or perhaps old, plan of the enemy is being run. See, the story of Easter is in part, the story of a rebellious people. In one sense, we are the rebellious people, turning everyone to our own way and needing the death of the spotless lamb of God to atone for our sin. But it also is a historical story, in which Christ came to His own, and His own received Him not. Christ was offered up to death by the Jews, and they have opposed him, the apostles, and mankind ever since. Telling the story of Easter without the sober warning of the destruction awaiting those who reject Christ is not to tell the story of Easter at all. That simple statement that I just made may very soon be very, very costly to confess. This week, Trump also appointed Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun to lead the special envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism. The most commonly used definition of antisemitism from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance explicitly asserts that claiming the Jews killed Jesus is antisemitic. This may be the dividing truth of our generation. Will we stand for what the Bible says, including when it is inconvenient and possibly even illegal? Or was all that talk about infallibility, inerrancy, and sufficiency really just talk after all? Nine days ago in Frisco Texas an altercation at a track meet shocked the nation. Austin Metcalf was a promising track and field athlete attending a championship competition when he got into a brief altercation with another athlete, Karmelo Anthony, over a tent. According to witnesses, in a matter of moments after the disagreement started, Karmelo took out a knife from his bag and stabbed Austin Metcalf in the heart. Austin died moments later in his twin brother’s arms. This tragedy reopened the wound and division that has been present for nearly the entirety of our nation’s history. Austin Metcalf is far from the first victim of black on white violence, bringing pressing and relevant questions about law, order, and race to the surface yet again. But as family and community mourn for Austin Metcalf and Karmelo Anthony is being held in jail on a one million dollar bond, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised by the black community for Karmelo Anthony, who they see as a victim in the encounter, despite him confessing to the stabbing. We are at the point where even the unjustified murder of a high schooler cannot be objectively condemned as a terrible tragedy by some sides of the aisle.At a certain point it’s time to say the quiet part out loud. Much credit is given to Constantine for his role in calling together the church at Nicea and helping facilitate the foundational creed of the Christian church. But did you know that a mere 10 years later in 335, at the council of Tyre, Constantine exiled one of the fiercest defenders of the faith at the time: Athanasius? Athanasius remained in exile until Constantine’s death, and was only welcomed back by his son who restored him as a bishop, who then went on to exile him again a year later. Constantine the great also continued to permit the continuation of pagan temples and rituals, and retained the title Pontifex Maximus meaning “great priest of the Roman cults.” Sounds alot like America’s principled pluralism today.Now at first glance these facts are pretty inconvenient for someone who just recently argued that the state has a normative role in correcting the church. If, after all, one of the greatest supposed examples was an emperor who exiled faithful bishops and continued to permit pagan worship then the batting average doesn’t look great. This is to say nothing of the countless martyrs of the Catholic Church, the supposedly terrible Spanish Inquisition and even Martin Luther and other zealous reformers. If the State really is supposed to correct the church in certain matters, why all of the errors and excesses? In AD 324 the controversy over Arianism was dividing Emperor Constantine’s recently-unified Roman Empire. Constantine had converted a mere decade ago and achieved spectacular success on the battlefield over his rival Licinius , but was dismayed to return and find that the religion and church he had come to love to was torn apart with squabbling, division, and dissensions. So what happened? Did the church realize their need for clarity on the divinity of the Son and come together at Nicea because they knew they had to hammer out these doctrines? Did Alexander and Arius sit down willingly for the good of the church? Nope. Instead of the church leading the way, Emperor Constantine issued an imperial summons to the warring bishops of the East and West, demanding they convene at Nicea. The result of that month long council was the Nicene creed, a creed that has stood the test of time and is the foundational confession of practically all Christian traditions 1700 years later. This happened again under Emperor Theodosius I & II at Constantinople and Ephesus, under Marcian at Chalcedon, under Justinian again at Constantinople, and on and on. This pattern plays out again and again and again. The church wars, divides, errs, and even apostatizes, and the means of correction that God uses is often the State. This causes us Americans to bristle and protest but it is undeniable that the bulk of church reform has been initiated, carried out, and completed at the hand of the sovereign. Perhaps for all of our spirituality and airtight systematic theology we have forgotten the ordinary, practical means that God uses to save, purify, and protect his church. They made their headlines over the years, from un-cancelling conservatives that had been unjustly fired or hitting back at woke companies like Harry’s Razors and Hershey’s chocolate.But as of yesterday, March 18th, co-CEO and co-founder Jeremy Boering is stepping down as CEO. Whether it was willingly or unwillingly doesn’t really matter; it’s a huge shake-up for someone as visible as Jeremy. But is it tyranny—or is it the legitimate use of power for the good of the nation?There is a long and deep conservative tradition that supports the responsible use of authority. Edmund Burke warned that power unused is power lost, and that liberty without virtue is the greatest of all evils. Russell Kirk argued that moral order requires strong governance. Sam Francis lambasted the Right for its obsession with losing honorably rather than governing effectively. Even American history is filled with examples of presidents who who defied courts and insisted on doing what they believed was right. Lincoln, FDR, Reagan, even Andrew Jackson understood that sometimes, the law is wrong, and justice demands action. Yet, modern evangelicals often act as if any use of power is suspect, embracing what Francis called the "beautiful loser syndrome"—preferring to be righteous victims rather than victorious defenders of truth and order. But what does Scripture actually say? Joseph wielded power in Egypt to save his people. Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem despite opposition. Even Christ declared, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."So today, we ask: Is Trump a tyrant, or is he acting within a legitimate and necessary conservative tradition?
