The Supreme Court of South Carolina ruled that Alex Murdaugh is entitled to a new trial, citing improper influences on the jury. According to the court, Becky Hill's comments and actions compromised the integrity of the jury, violating Murdaugh’s right to a fair trial. On July 23, 2021 in a bar located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Evan Hawthorne and Larry Vaughn, were involved in an altercation that seemed to stem from a disagreement over who had worse PTSD. In the fall of 2015 4 people were found murdered in a mobile home. The victims, all from the same family, were stabbed to death and then shot. The scene was brutal. Amy Vilardi, a member of the same family, made the 911 call alerting authorities to the crime. No arrests were made. Almost eight years later, Amy and Ross Vilardi were arrested for the murders. February 27, 2026, Amy Vilardi was found guilty of the murders and sentenced to four consecutive life sentences. Lori Murray was her defense attorney. The South Carolina Supreme Court has set a date to hear oral arguments in Alex Murdaugh's appeal of his murder convictions of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul. An attorney and law professor at Temple Law School, Matt Siembieda, joins the podcast to discuss the last filings of the State and Defense before oral arguments take place. Also; Siembieda talks about what a second trial might look like. There is an update on the death of Kaden Moses. On December 30, 2023, 14 year old Kaden Moses was found fatally shot in his bedroom in his home in Clinton, SC. The autopsy report classified his death as a homicide. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has told Kaden's mother, Erika, that the case is closed, unless "additional credible evidence is discovered" the case will remain closed. Stephanie Tinsley created the true crime podcast, Everything They Missed. It is about the 2007 savage murder of Danny Harris in Memphis, a father of four, two of them Memphis police officers. Mr. Harris's body was left unnoticed and decomposing in his home for 2 months. The case was closed suspiciously and within 48 hours, police zeroed in on a 24-year-old black man, Andrew Hayes with a 3rd grade level IQ, who had never met the victim. After a 27-hour unrecorded interrogation, Andrew confessed. The Tennessee Innocence Project now calls that confession false, but for 18 years, Andrew has remained in prison.  Tinsley's show  uncovered new evidence that may exonerate the man. In this episode we are going to talk with Stephen Frederico, the father of Logan Feredrico. Logan Federico, 22, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, was visiting friends in Columbia, South Carolina, on May 3 when a career criminal broke into the home where she was staying with friends. Jimmy Robertson has been sitting on death row in South Carolina since 1999. He was convicted of murdering his parents in Rock Hill, SC. Alex Murdaugh’s defense team has filed a 79-page response challenging prosecutors’ efforts to block his request for a new murder trial. His lawyers argue that the state’s opposition is flawed and maintain that Murdaugh was denied a fair trial due to alleged jury tampering by Colleton County Clerk Becky Hill. Although Retired Chief Justice Jean Toal denied a retrial—despite finding Hill not credible—Murdaugh’s attorneys insist that key evidence was ignored, forensic findings were misrepresented, and irrelevant financial evidence was used to distract from the lack of proof tying Murdaugh to the murders of his wife and son.
