Catching Up with the Suns

On this episode of Sunny in PHX, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich catch up on everything Suns. It has been a busy time for both of them and they greatly appreciate everyone's understanding. They talk about the NBA In Season Tournament. What went well? What would we change? They also discuss the latest Draymond Green incident and the League's reaction. They then discuss the Suns' big 3 finally seeing the court together. Note: this episode was recorded before Bradley Beal's most recent ankle injury.

Injured Suns Struggle as Season Starts

On this week's episode of Sunny in PHX, Mitch Krmpotich reviews the Phoenix Suns' recent injury struggles. He also reviews recaps of the last few games and looks forward to the coming three games, especially Friday's in-season tournament game against the Lakers. The Suns have had their struggles this season, but are hopefully on the up and up as the team appears to be on the precipice of full health. Also let me know what books you recommend. I'm trying to get back into reading! I am typically a fan of fantasy (if it's not too long), horror, noir, and fiction in general.

Suns Season Starts Off with a Bang

On this week's episode of Sunny in PHX, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich discuss the slightly tumultuous start to the Phoenix Suns' season. Devin Booker impressed in the first game of the season, but sat for the second with an injury. And what of Bradley Beal? He has yet to suit up for the Suns. Thankfully Kevin Durant is still here to right the ship. Right? Tune in to find out. Also, we realized in post that we talked about the bet question and then forgot to do one. Keep an eye out for future bet questions and follow us on Twitter/X @sunnyinphxpod for this week's and future bet questions.

Preseason Standouts, Early Drama

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich take a look at the first three preseason games, and then talk about which of the new players have stood out the most to them. The Suns had a preseason start full of "interesting" matchups, Monty Williams and the Pistons, the Denver Nuggets, and the new home of Deandre Ayton, the Portland Trail Blazers. It has been very enjoyable to watch how all the new pieces on the roster are fitting together so quickly at the start of preseason. Then the guys talk about which of the new Suns have impressed them the most so far. This was a tough decision to make, since we've seen so much great output from guys like Eric Gordon, Grayson Allen, Bradley Beal, and more. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Move On From Deandre Ayton

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the Deandre Ayton trade, predict roster cuts, and talk about the new potential rotation. The Suns decided it was finally time to move on from Deandre Ayton, and sent him to Portland in a blockbuster trade. The Suns bring back Jusuf Nurkic, fan-favorite Grayson Allen, Nassir Little, and Keon Johnson. Nurkic, Allen, and Little could all fit into the lineup perfectly, but the guys talk about who might not be making the final roster once the regular season hits. After that, we say farewell to Deandre Ayton and talk about some of his best moments as a Phoenix Sun. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

2023 Offseason Trivia Showcase

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about Devin Booker's new shoe with Nike, and then have some fun and play some Suns related trivia. This is what happens during the offseason. The guys start off talking about DBook's new shoes - the Book Chapter 1's. These, as of now, are going to be out in orange as well as black - and both look amazing. We both agree that its about time that Book gets his own shoe. After that, the guys go back and forth with some hopefully humorous Suns related trivia, highlighted by WHICH FRANK SAID IT? VOGEL OR SINATRA. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

The Suns are finally going to welcome Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire to the Suns Ring of Honor this season - long overdue! The guys talk about what took so long, and their memories of Matrix and STAT. After that, the guys briefly touch on the odd couple of Eric Gordon and Deandre Ayton playing for The Bahamas. The guys start things off by talking about the new uniforms, which pay homage to the 90s sunburst jerseys we all know and love, then go on to complain about the amount of jersey's teams are going through. Then the guys talk about the Suns two two-way contracts, Saben Lee and Udoka Azubuike, before they start talking about some exciting positional battles that will happen during training camp. There is one starting spot up for grabs, and then plenty of minutes available at backup PG and PF. The guys predict who they think will see the bulk of the minutes at all those spots. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Sign Smattering of Free Agents

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about all of the Phoenix Suns' freshly signed free agents. The Suns got to business quickly as soon as free agency opened, signing Drew Eubanks, Keita Bates-Diop, Yuta Watanabe, Chimezie Metu, and Eric Gordon. The Suns addressed nearly every position on the court through free agency and trades this year, and are looking to make another deep playoff run. The guys talk about how each of these guys will fit in, and what they expect their roles to be. After that the guys talk about the upcoming Las Vegas NBA Summer League, and are excited to see Jordan Goodwin and Toumani Camara take the court for the Suns before the regular season starts. This episode was recorded literally minutes before the Isaiah Todd trade. Go Suns!

Suns Trade Chris Paul and Landry Shamet, Land Bradley Beal

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the trade with the Washington Wizards - Chris Paul and Landry Shamet for Bradley Beal, Jordan Goodwin, Isaiah Todd, a handful of 2nd round picks, and four 1st round picks swaps. The guys break down the trade and talk about what the team will look like with Bradley Beal, how he fits in with Booker and Durant, as well as what Jordan Goodwin could bring to the rotation this season. After that, the guys take a look at the Suns newest draft pick, Toumani Camara from Dayton. The 23 year old power forward finds himself in an interesting position - a 2nd round pick who could be counted on to play minutes for a championship contender. After taking a look at Camara, the guys spend a few minutes talking about the upcoming Summer League. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Vogel becomes the first Phoenix Suns head coach to have won a championship - and the guys talk about what he will bring to the team. The guys then talk about the Suns keeping assistant coach Kevin Young on the squad, and the addition of David Fizdale. The Suns have already added some big-time NBA head coaching experience to the staff - and we should be optimistic to see what they bring to the table. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

After that, they take a look at the four (or five) targets the Suns have to replace him - with our two favorite being Nick Nurse and Kevin Young. Suns Rebound at Home, Tie Series vs Nuggets 2-2

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the Phoenix Suns' two big wins over the Denver Nuggets to even the series 2-2. Without Chris Paul, Monty Williams has added Cameron Payne into the starting lineup and made some big changes to the bench rotation, which paid off bigtime in both Games 3 and 4. Devin Booker and Kevin Durant have been carrying the majority of the load, but have finally been getting some help from the role players. The guys talk go deeper into Games 3 and 4, and then take a quick look at the upcoming Games 5 and 6. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Drop First Two Games Against Nuggets

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the disappointing 0-2 start against the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals. Luckily, the Suns will have the homecourt advantage against the Nuggets for the next two games, coming on Friday and Sunday. The Suns didn't play terrible in Game 1, but the Denver Nuggets showed why they were the #1 seed in the Western Conference this season. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray both had big games to propel the Nuggets to the win - while Devin Booker and Kevin Durant carried the load for the Suns, but fell short. Game 2 had a very different tone, where the Suns came out very aggressive on defense and on the glass, but ran out of steam on the offensive end towards the end of the game. Coach Monty Williams shuffled around the rotation a bit, but the Suns only managed 4 points off the bench, and looked very stagnant throughout large chunks of the game. Thanks for tuning in, and lets hope the Suns can get a couple Ws in front of the home crowd. Go Suns!

Suns Defeat Clippers, Advance to Second Round vs Nuggets

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the last three games of the Los Angeles Clippers series, and look ahead to the upcoming second round series against the Denver Nuggets. The Suns handled business and closed out the Los Angeles Clippers in five games - ending a series in front of the Valley faithful for the first time since 2007. The guys take a look at how the Suns got the edge on the Clippers in the final three games, including riding the hot hands of Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, and some changes to the rotation. Then the guys look ahead to the Denver Nuggets series, where the Suns will be taking on the #1 team in the West. All eyes go to the Nikola Jokic vs Deandre Ayton matchup - but the Suns will have their hands full with plenty of size that the Nuggets put out on the court. Thanks for tuning in, and be on the lookout for another episode after Game 2. Go Suns!

Suns Struggle in Game 1, Thrive in Game 2

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich take a look at Games 1 and 2 against the Los Angeles Clippers. In Game 1, the Suns came out very flat and had troubles working themselves back into the game. Kevin Durant got off to a very slow start, while not getting much help from the rest of the roster - creating an early defecit for the Suns. The guys focus on on Monty Williams' rotations in this game, and say what went wrong. Game 2 was a different story, seeing the Suns take a victory while looking much more efficient on both ends of the ball, some tighter rotations from Monty Williams, and our star players get into a groove. The guys also highlight the excellent play from two unexpected sources, Bismack Biyombo and Torrey Craig. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

The Suns' bench unit managed to lose to the Clippers in the final game of the regular season to lock in a first round matchup against the #5 Clippers. The guys start off the episode by taking a quick look at the final game of the regular season, and what that solid performance from the bench unit will mean as we get into the playoffs. The guys also talk about a potential Paul George return at some point in the series, what Kawhi Leonard will look like in a playoff series, Russell Westbrook's solid play in a Clippers jersey, and what to expect from our guys Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

KD Shines, Suns Prepare for Playoffs

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich take a look at the Phoenix Suns' playoff scenario as they near the end of the NBA regular season, and more. The Suns look to be firmly in charge of hanging on to the 4-seed and hold on to home court advantage for the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Behind them, the Clippers, Lakers, and Warriors are in an interesting battle to see which teams will match up against the Suns and Kings, and which one will head into the play-in tournament. Phoenix has been looking very solid with Kevin Durant in the lineup, as the team holds on to their undefeated record with KD in the starting lineup. We also pose a question, would you rather see plenty of KD and the fellas for the remainder of the regular season? Or would you rather bench them all and not put anything on tape before the playoffs? Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Continue to Struggle as KD Nears Potential Return

The guys start off the show by talking about the recent officiating of games. While the Suns FT's allowed vs FT's attempted isn't a huge offset, the guys highlight how the refs have been changing the momentum of games with their whistles. Then, the guys talk about the news that Kevin Durant could be returning to the floor as early as Wednesday. The guys talk about what the team has been missing out on in Durant's absence, and who has stepped up recently. The guys also talk about what missing Deandre Ayton for the last few games has meant to the team. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Is it Time to Panic? Pt. 2

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich discuss, once again, if it is time for the Suns to start to panic. The Suns are coming off an 0-3 stretch without Kevin Durant in the lineup - how will they fare for the next week or more without KD in the lineup? The Western Conference standings are all very tight heading into the last few weeks of the season, and will have to hold off some very solid teams from trying to take their place for home court advantage. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Booker Goes Off, Kevin Durant's Unfortunate Injury

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about Devin Booker's historic four game stretch, and the unfortunate injury to Kevin Durant. To start the show, the guys talk about Booker's four game stretch of 35+ points, being the first to ever do so in a Phoenix Suns jersey. Booker has shown that he can play at this level without Kevin Durant on the floor, as well as sharing the court with him - can Booker continue to carry the load through the rest of the regular season? Then, the guys talk about Kevin Durant's ankle injury that happened pregame against the Oklahoma City Thunder. We talk about who has to step up, and who we might see inserted into the rotation while we wait the 2-3 weeks to hear more news about KD. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Kevin Durant made his debut against the Charlotte Hornets last week, and it became apparent that him being on the court was going to open up many opportunities for all the players sharing the court with him. The guys talk about what it means having a superstar like Kevin Durant on the team, which other guys will benefit the most, and what to expect from the Suns for the rest of the regular season. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Look to Shake Up Starting Lineup Post All-Star Break

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich predict who the final member of the Phoenix Suns' new starting five will be, and take a deep look at the depth chart. With the arrival of Kevin Durant to the Valley, there are four very (very) secured starters, and the Suns will have to fill one more player to complete the lineup. The guys discuss two of their favorite candidates - Josh Okogie and Torrey Craig - and take a look at a couple others like TJ Warren and the newest addition to the team, Terrence Ross. Once that starter is decided, there will be some battles on the bench to determine who gets the most run on the court. Terrence Ross, Damion Lee, and Landry Shamet will likely be starting a battle for minutes at the backup SG behind Devin Booker - and we will have to watch who can best fit the other backup wing spot. We'll be taking a break next week for the All Star Break, but we'll be back when KD hits the floor! (hopefully) Go Suns!

Suns Trade for Kevin Durant, Return to Championship Contention

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich celebrate the arrival of Kevin Durant to Phoenix via what could be biggest trade in Phoenix Suns history. They talk about what this means for the current roster, what the on-court product will look like, and the future of the franchise. Mat Ishbia, just hours after gaining majority ownership of the Phoenix Suns, pulled the trigger on a blockbuster trade to land Kevin Durant and TJ Warren - giving up Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder, four 1st round picks, and a 2028 pick swap. The Suns also made a move to bring in Darius Bazley from the Oklahoma City Thunder, while sending out Dario Saric and a 2nd round pick. The guys discuss what this means, losing some fan-favorite players in Bridges, Johnson, and Saric. But in the end, all eyes are on one thing - a ring. Go Suns!

Are the Suns the Best Team in the NBA?

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the streaking Phoenix Suns, who are coming off a four game win streak. Chris Paul and Cameron Johnson have both returned to the lineup, both providing a huge spark for the team. Over the last week, the Suns have leapt from the 12th seed to a brief moment at the 5 seed - and currently sit at the 7 spot. Good news on the ownership front, Mat Ishbia is set to take over the team before the February 9th trade deadline. The Suns seem to be active in numerous trade discussions, and it sounds like they had a shot at trading for Rui Hachimura, who ended up heading to the Lakers for a very reasonable return. Let's hope that James Jones and Ishbia will have something up their sleeves before the deadline hits. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Sink to 12 Seed as Trade Rumors Swirl

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich focus in on the Suns recent struggles, and if they think the Suns will have the opportunity to push through and make it into the playoffs. After that, they talk about a few recent injury updates, recap last week's games, and preview this week's. The Suns are a dismal 1-9 over their last 10 games, and currently sitting in the 12th spot of the Western Conference. The streak of basketball is something that we haven't seen, as Suns fans, in quite a while - and it is easy to know where to point the finger - injuries and roster depth. But, there is still plenty of season left and the Suns will, sooner or later, have their full squad back and there is no reason to expect this team to just fold over. Cameron Johnson made his return against the Brooklyn Nets, and there might be a good shot that we see some more guys return to the lineup over this four game homestand. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Is it Time for the Suns to Blow it Up?

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich discuss if it is time for the Suns to "blow it up", recent injuries, and some new information on the Suns ownership situation. Is it time for the Phoenix Suns to blow it up? This sentiment has become a little bit louder on social media as of late, so the guys take a look at what a Suns rebuild would actually look like. The guys talk about what the Suns might do with their star players, and who would actually be a trade-worthy asset on the roster. Brian Windhorst recently gave some inside news on the Suns 3-headed ownership situation, and what that means as the team heads towards the trade deadline. The guys talk about what sort of situation this puts James Jones in, and what to expect once the ownership officially transfers over to Ishbia. The guys briefly discuss this last week of Suns basketball featuring 8 or 9 active players on the roster - make that 10 with the addition of Saben Lee on a 10-day contract. Most of this time is spent on the very, very surprising win over the Warriors in their own gym. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Injury Riddled Suns Face Adversity

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the Devin Booker groin injury, other injury news, headlines from over the holiday break, and more. It was disappointing to see Devin Booker's brief return to the court be ended by reaggravating his groin injury, and will end up missing about a month for the Suns. The guys also talk the Cameron Johnson timetable for return, Cameron Payne reaggravating his foot injury, and then have a brief conversation about if a finger needs to be pointed at the training staff. Then the guys talk about what needs to be done for the Suns to get back to their winning ways without Devin Booker on the court. Lots of talk about Mikal Bridges stepping in as a consistent 2nd or 3rd scoring options were happening earlier this season, but Mikal has had a few rough games without Booker in the spotlight. Deandre Ayton is also another thought - and the guys talk about how the team could possibly attempt to get him more involved in the offense moving forward. Things wrap up by the guys looking at the next four games (three on national TV) - and it is not looking great for the Suns. Lets hope the guys heal up and get hot before having to play Miami, Cleveland, Golden State, and Denver. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Back on Track with Big Rivalry Win

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about Devin Booker's big 58 point night, give an injury update, take a look at a change in the Phoenix Suns' system, and discuss recent and upcoming Suns games. It sure was nice to see Devin Booker getting back in his groove after the hamstring injury and a few sub-par games. Booker torched the Pelicans for 58 points in the final matchup of the regular season, reminding the Pelicans that the Suns are for real one last time before another potential playoff matchup. The guys talk about the injury report, featuring Devin Booker nursing a groin injury - and took the night off against the Los Angeles Lakers - but Deandre Ayton is back. Still missing from the lineup is Cam Payne dealing with a foot injury, and Jock Landale in concussion protocol. The guys spend some time talking about Josh Okogie and Torrey Craig and their roles on the team - and the special topic of offensive rebounding. The Suns are averaging the 6th most offensive rebounds per game this season, and those two attacking the glass has been a big part of the team's improvement in this stat category. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Slumping Suns Reminiscent of a Distant Past

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about everything that has been going wrong with the Phoenix Suns, and give an injury update on a handful of Suns. The Phoenix Suns have been hurting in a big way, going on a 0-5 streak and losing some key players to injury along the way. The Suns started the streak by coming out flat three games in a row, against opponents that a team with high hopes should have no problem showing up for - the Mavericks, Celtics, and Pelicans. The best performance of this stretch game in Game 2 against the Pelicans, without Devin Booker, where the Suns took the game to OT but didn't have enough in the tank to pull it out. Things aren't getting any easiers for The Fellas, with upcoming games against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Pelicans AGAIN, and then the surging Los Angeles Lakers. Let's hope Booker, Deandre Ayton, and Cameron Payne heal up quick, because these are three huge upcoming games against Western Conference foes. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Booker, Ayton Find Long Awaited Chemistry

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the spectacular play of Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, talk about the injury bug, and recap last week's games. Devin Booker has been on a tear lately, bringing home the Western Conference Player of the Month for November. Ayton joined in too, and picked up a Western Conference Player of the Week a couple weeks ago as well. With the Suns' stars playing at such a high level - the team has been in great form lately - allowing Monty Williams to win Western Conference Coach of the Month. The Suns went 3-1 last week with a tough loss to the Houston Rockets, but with wins over the Kings, Bulls, and Spurs. The Suns have a tough week coming up - with games against the Celtics and the Pelicans x2. Lets hope that Booker and Ayton can continue to play at a high level while they wait for Chris Paul, Cameron Johnson, and others to return from injury. Thanks for listening, and Go Suns!

Book drops 49, Cam Payne Shines, New Jerseys Looking FINE

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk the Chris Paul heel injury and Cam Payne's starting role, give their takes on the new City jerseys, and break down recent Suns games. Chris Paul has now missed six games in a row due to a sore heel, but the Suns have been playing great basketball with Cameron Payne taking his place in the starting lineup. Payne is scoring over 20 points per game as a starter, shooting the ball efficiently, and taking good care of it as well. The guys talk about when to expect CP3 back, and what the PG minute breakdown might look like once that happens. After that, the guys touch on the new turquoise City jerseys. Both guys are huge fans of the jersey, especially since seeing them out on the court. The Suns did a great job recognizing the original Native American tribes of Arizona in these jerseys, and they seem like a fan favorite. The guys then break down last week's four games, where the Suns split them with a 2-2 record. They touch on the tough loss to the Heat despite three chances at potential game winning shots - the Suns beating the Warriors DESPITE STEPHEN CURRY SCORING 50, the new-look Utah Jazz, and the early Sunday kickoff against the Knicks. The Suns have three games at home this week against the Lakers, Pistons, and a highly anticipated rematch against the Utah Jazz. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Injury Plagued Suns Go 1-2 on the Week

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about Chris Paul's heel injury, Cameron Johnson's meniscus surgery, and the latest updates on the Jae Crowder trade. After that, the guys look at last week's three games, and preview this week's upcoming four games. Chris Paul went down with a heel injury early in the loss against the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Suns have been missing his presence on the court since. The Suns are benefitting by Paul taking a few games off early in the regular season, and by letting Cameron Payne get his groove back with the starting lineup. Paul is questionable for today's game against the Heat, and everyone would love to see him back. Then the guys talk about Cameron Johnson's election to go for the quicker-return on the meniscus surgery. They discuss what this means for Johnson after him and the Suns couldn't come to terms on an extension earlier this season, and what that means for him moving forward. After that, the guys give the latest update on the Jae Crowder front - despite injuries to the team, there is no plan for Crowder to ever re-join the Suns, and trade talks have started up once again as the Suns look to bring back just about anything in return. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Cam Johnson Injury, Controversial Calls, Suns Still Win

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about Cameron Johnson's torn meniscus surgery and recovery time - and who will need to step up in the meantime. After that, they break down last week's games and preview this week's three games. Cameron Johnson went down with a torn meniscus 5 minutes into the first matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers last week. The guys talk about how long Johnson might be out, and who will have to step up to replace them. Then they touch on who they could potentially bring in as a free agent to fill the void, and then once again discuss a Jae Crowder trade. The guys then break down last week's three games against the Timberwolves and Trail Blazers x2. The Suns ended the week 2-1, and it totally should have been 3-0 but sometimes the refs let 5-step travels happen. You're welcome, Jerami Grant. This week the Suns head out on the road after getting nice and cozy here at home to start the season. The guys take on the 76ers, then the Timberwolves again, before heading down south to take on the Magic and the Heat. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

The guys start off the show by joking about the Tweet reply from Jae Crowder to someone who was definitely not his alternate account. What is Crowder's trade value looking like after NBA teams have seen the Suns play at a high level without him? After that, the guys check in on Chris Paul after his early season struggles, and discuss the Nets decision to move on from Steve Nash as head coach. The guys break down last week's three games, all W's! We talk about the obvious, the Klay Thompson ejection, as well as how great the team looked as a whole against the Warriors. Then the guys move onto the Pelicans game, which was a highly contested game despite the Pelicans missing Williamson, Ingram, and Jones. Then the guys talk about the W over the young Houston Rockets. This week, the Suns play the Timberwolves and then have the Portland Trail Blazers back-to-back this weekend. Let's hope the Suns can make up for their one loss of the season which happened against the Blazers earlier this year. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

2022-23 Season Prediction

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk the lack of a Jae Crowder trade, the lack of a Cameron Johnson extension, a quick look into this week's games, and then a quick season preview and predictions of this year's statistical leaders. The guys start off the show by discussing Jae Crowder still being on the roster, and if they see a trade happening soon. The guys think that the longer this goes on, the worse the return will be. After that they discuss the Suns and Cameron Johnson being unable to come to an agreement on a rookie extension. It sounds like the two parties were pretty far apart when it came down to cash, so we will see Johnson become a restricted free agent next offseason. Then the guys wrap things up by talking about the upcoming games against the Mavericks, Trail Blazers, and Clippers. After that, they predict the Suns regular season record, and which player will lead the Suns in all of the major statistical categories. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Sarver Out, Crowder Out(?), Media Day, Open Practice

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about Robert Sarver selling the team, Jae Crowder's trade request, the Suns at Media Day, and the open practice. The guys start off by briefly touching on the recent Robert Sarver news and his decision to sell the franchise. The guys talk about how much the team could sell for, who could be interested in purchasing it, and how the team's current situation will effect the sale price. Then the guys talk about Jae Crowder's very public trade request/demand. It is said that Crowder wanted a contract extension and to keep his position in the starting lineup, two points where the Suns weren't interested in budging. The guys talk about what the return might look like, and what the Suns will look like without Crowder. The guys wrap up the show by talking about the Suns at Media Day, as well as the open practice. Media Day was rough for the Suns - a lot of guys seemed to be pretty upset about the outcome of last season still. All eyes were on Deandre Ayton and his brief answers towards all questions directed at him. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Reacting to the Robert Sarver Investigation

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich discuss the recent findings of the Robert Sarver investigation, the punishment he received, and how the basketball world has been reacting to the news. After a year-long investigation, we finally heard the outcome and the punishment directed towards Sarver. A one year ban from the team as well as a $10 million dollar fine. Many fans were just happy to see that the investigation had come to a close after all the waiting around - but that quickly turned to disappointment when the punishment and fines equated to a slap on the wrist. The guys discuss the investigation and punishment, but then turn to the public reaction that has come from the investigation. Chris Paul and LeBron James are two current players who have spoken out, as well as the NBA Player's Association, the mayor of Phoenix, and numerous sports media personalities. PayPal has said that they will pull out of their sponsorship deal if Sarver remains as owner of the team. The guys discuss the trickle down effect this will have when it comes to finding new sponsors to support the team. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Potential Lineups, KD Drama Dwindles

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich touch on three topics - Dario Saric at EuroBasket, what seems to be the end of the Kevin Durant trade saga, and an outlook of the Suns rotation once the regular season gets started. The guys start off talking about Saric and how he has looked at EuroBasket. The main takeaway is that the guys are happy to see Dario playing full games back on the court - but are still waiting to see how he looks once he gets back on the NBA court. Next, the guys finally put an end to the KD trade talk and touch on the entire ride throughout this offseason. The guys make a point that now that this is over, it seems like the Suns barely did anything to improve the roster this offseason - and what that will mean once we hit the regular season. To cap things off, the guys talk about what they expect the rotation to look like next year. Will Cam Johnson start over Jae Crowder at PF? Who will be the primary backup C - Saric or Biyombo? Do any of the new signings have a shot at cracking the rotation? Listen in to see what the guys think. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns 2022-23 Schedule Release

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the release of the 2022-23 NBA schedule, Dario Saric playing some EuroBasket for Croatia, and what seems to be the end of the Kevin Durant trade rumors. The NBA schedule was recently released, and the guys pick out some games early on in the season to keep an eye out for. They also discuss the NBA's effort to cut back on travel miles and back-to-back games for the players, and it seems that the schedule fixed a lot of those issues this season. Next, the guys discuss Dario Saric's return to the court in EuroBasket. They're both very excited to see Dario back out on the court - and talk about some of the discussions that Saric had with Coach Monty Williams over the offseason. The guys also touch on how Deandre Ayton was penciled in to play for the Bahamas team this summer - but ended up not being able to commit to the team. To cap off the show, the guys discuss what seems to be the end of the Kevin Durant rumors. This was recorded shortly before the official news came from the Nets, that they'd be keeping KD this year, but the guys seemed to feel like the end was near anyways. Suns Match Ayton's Offer, Kevin Durant Rumors

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich discuss the Suns matching Deandre Ayton's offer sheet from the Pacers, the latest on the Kevin Durant trade news, and a quick look at the Summer League Suns. The Suns didn't take long to match the max offer sent to Deandre Ayton by the Pacers on Thursday afternoon. This came after weeks of sign-and-trade rumors, with none ever coming to fruition. Rumors say that the Suns matched the offer once they officially received it within just a few minutes, showing that there was no way they were going to let the big man leave The Valley for free. Then the guys talk about the latest Kevin Durant trade rumors. The odds seem a little less likely since having to match the Pacers offer, but we have been told to not rule out the possibility yet. The guys come to terms that this means that fan-favorites Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson would likely be part of the deal. The guys then touch on Summer League, and talk about a few guys to watch while the Suns play their last couple games of the summer. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Anxiously Awaiting Free Agency After a Quiet Draft Night

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie and Mitch talk about the Deandre Ayton situation and the upcoming offseason. Ayton has been the main topic of discussion ever since the season ended, and that isn't about to change. Recently, the Brooklyn Nets have become the favorite (behind the Suns) to have Ayton on the roster next season. The guys discuss what kind of trade package the Nets would need, and if they would be willing to pull the trigger on a trade like this. After that, the guys talk about the NBA Draft and the lack of Phoenix Suns moves. Rumors stated that the Suns were looking to trade into the draft for a pick, which never ended up happening. As of now, the Suns haven't added anyone from this rookie class to a two-way contract, a summer league deal, or a training camp deal. With free agency opening up soon, let us know what you think will happen with the Suns on our Twitter @sunnyinphxpod. Thanks for listening, and Go Suns!

The Past Month of Suns Fandom

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about the details involving a potential Deandre Ayton sign-and-trade, and then talk about how it has felt to be a Suns fan since their disappointing playoff elimination. The guys start off the show talking about the latest rumors of a Deandre Ayton sign-and-trade that have been swirling around lately. Both guys don't seem very optimistic about the return, and believe that the better option would be to roll the dice, re-sign Ayton, and see what things are looking like by the trade deadline. After that, Charlie and Mitch get brutally honest about what life has been like as a Suns fan as of late. Lately, its been tough to engage in Suns related discussion with friends/family/strangers - and it feels like all of us are collectively down in the dumps. The guys also have an interesting topic dealing with the length of the NBA season, and especially the seven game playoff series. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns End Season on Embarrassing Note

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich talk about what all went wrong against the Dallas Mavericks, talk Deandre Ayton, and preview the offseason. The Suns embarrassed us all in Game 7 against the Dallas Mavericks, and that is what the guys spend the majority of the show discussing. What went wrong? Was it the coaching? The players? The guys discuss numerous different angles, trying to explain away the pain. After that, the mood doesn't get any better when the guys discuss the upcoming free agency of Deandre Ayton. Reports are out that Ayton's camp are disappointed they didn't get a max deal, Monty Williams had issues with Ayton this season, and on top of that, there are trade proposals as far as the eye can see. What do you think happens with Ayton this offseason? Then the guys quickly discuss the upcoming offseason. With no draft picks, the NBA Draft or Summer League don't look to be too entertaining for us fans over the summer, unless the Suns make a move into the draft to acquire some young talent. Inconsistent Suns Face Massive Game 7

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down Games 5 and 6 against the Dallas Mavericks, and then preview what Game 7 is going to look like, and what the Suns will need to do to move on to the Western Conference Championship. The Phoenix Suns looked like the Phoenix Suns in Game 5 at home against the Mavericks. The Suns came out big time in the second half and outscored the Mavs by 27, leading towards some optimism for the team and fans heading into Game 6. Game 6 was another rough one on the road for the Suns, who came out flat in nearly every aspect of the game. The defense seemed to completely break down at times, leading to Luka Doncic walking to the rim for easy layups, or finding a wide open shooter on the perimeter. The Suns head into a huge Game 7 at home, thanks to the team's spectacular regular season. The Suns will have remember what got them here in the first place, and dig deep to come away with a win in G7. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Close Out Pelicans, Dominate Dallas in First Two Games

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the Suns' two victories over the Dallas Mavericks to open up the Conference Semifinals. After that, the guys take a quick look at the two upcoming games in Dallas. The Suns started off the series with a wire-to-wire victory in Game 1, but let things get a little too close towards the end of the game. Phoenix was able to withstand a 45 point performance from Luka Doncic, who hasn't been getting a ton of help early on in this series. The Suns were lead by a beautiful 25 point performance from Deandre Ayton, and the resurgence of Cameron Johnson off the bench. In Game 2, things were a different story. The first three quarters were right, but we were once again blessed by the 4th Quarter Suns, who turned a 6 point lead into a 20 point lead over the course of just a few minutes. Hot shooting from the superstar guard duo of Devin Booker and Chris Paul is what rocketed the Suns to the 20 point victory. The Suns head to Dallas for Games 3 and 4, coming on Friday and Sunday. Charlie thinks a sweep is on order, while Mitch thinks the Mavs will take a game at home. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Win Two of Last Three, Look to Close Out First Round

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down Games 3-5 against the Pelicans, and then preview Game 6, along with the potential return of Devin Booker to the Phoenix Suns lineup. The Suns re-gained home court advantage after winning Game 3 in New Orleans. After dropping Game 2 at home, it became essential for the Suns to win one of the games in New Orleans, which they did thanks to yet another Chris Paul 4th quarter performance. He again put up 19 points to give the Suns a win in the clutch, despite being without Devin Booker. Game 4 of the series saw the Suns continue their dismal shooting, and this time it got the best of them, and the Pelicans evened up the series. The guys briefly touch on the insane foul disparity that has become pretty obvious over the last couple games as well. Game 5 was a fun one to discuss, mainly due to the Suns role players finally hitting some buckets. Mikal Bridges lead the way in this one, scoring 31 points, hitting all four of his three pointers, and playing nearly the entire game. The Suns head to New Orleans for Game 6, and there is a chance that Devin Booker will be returning to the lineup to help the Suns close out the series. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Split Opening Two Playoff Games, Devin Booker Injured

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich break down the first two games of the playoff series against the New Orleans Pelicans, and then talk about the Devin Booker hamstring injury. The Suns split the first two games of the series against the Pelicans, winning game one but taking a tough loss in game two. Chris Paul put on an absolute show in the fourth quarter to propel the Suns to victory after a hard fought battle against the Pelicans. Paul hunted out the matchup he wanted and was able to convert on bucket after bucket to seal the game up for the Suns. The Pelicans, despite shooting poorly, were able to dominate the glass and keep tight with the Suns for the majority of the game. In game two of the series, Devin Booker got off to an incredibly hot start, putting in 31 points while hitting tough shot after tough shot. The two teams found themselves in another tightly contested game up until the point where Devin Booker came up hobbled after straining his hamstring. The Suns looked lost after losing their leader, having troubles converting on the offensive end, and getting caught flat footed numerous times on the defensive end. Booker will likely miss the next two games with a "mild" hamstring strain, and the Suns will require someone else to step up and get some buckets. Charlie and Mitch both expect that guy to be Cameron Johnson, so keep an eye out for him in these upcoming games. Thanks for tuning in, and Go Suns!

Suns Finish with League's Best Record, Prepare for Playoffs

On this week's episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krmpotich wrap up the last week of the NBA regular season before they predict the play-ins and the Suns' round 1 playoff matchup. Frank Kaminsky was waived by the Suns last week in order to allow Ish Wainwright to be eligible to play in the playoffs. Kaminsky's knee injury still wasn't healed up, so this was a necessary move to fill the roster with active bodies for the postseason. Frank will be missed! After that the guys talk about the franchise record setting season for the Suns, Chris Paul leading the league in assists per game, and more. The Suns will have to wait until Friday night to find out who their opponent will be in Round 1. Both the guys would LOVE for a Suns vs Spurs matchup, but that seems pretty unlikely. The guys predict and opening round series against the Timberwolves, but then split their decision on who they may face in Round 2.
