THINK Small Portfolio BEFORE Big

THINK Small Portfolio BEFORE Big In this episode of Join Up Dots, we dive deep into a challenge that so many new entrepreneurs face — the pressure to find and commit to one big business idea. Listener Hollie from Chelmsford reaches out, overwhelmed by the constant messages online telling her to go "all in" on a single venture. She’s got ideas, passion, and motivation, but none of them feel like the “perfect” thing — and that hesitation has her stuck in overthinking mode. This episode offers a powerful reframe: what if the best path isn’t to go all in on one big business, but instead to start small and create a portfolio of income streams? Rather than pouring your energy, time, and resources into something untested, why not spread your risk, learn as you go, and stack small wins into something meaningful? We share real-world stories of people who did just that — including one entrepreneur who lost thousands chasing a perfect product, and another who slowly built a collection of simple income streams that now give her full-time freedom. You’ll hear about dog walking businesses, handmade candle sales, and simple local blogs that became powerful income channels — all without a big launch, investor backing, or quitting a day job. In fact, what you’ll discover is that control, clarity, and confidence all come from movement — not from standing still while you wait for the lightning bolt of inspiration. This episode is a reminder that your journey doesn’t have to start with a grand plan. It can start with a £10 win. A happy client. A blog post. A candle sale. As we work through Hollie’s dilemma, we uncover the hidden power in doing many small things that excite you, instead of chasing one intimidating, "career-defining" idea. You’ll learn how testing multiple income streams helps you develop real skills, identify your ideal customers, and discover what truly energises you. It’s not just about making money — it’s about building a life that feels like yours. So whether you’re thinking of selling digital downloads, offering local services, creating content, or trying out creative products, this episode will open your eyes to how small ideas can grow into something incredible when given the space to evolve. You don’t need to wait until you feel ready. You don’t need to go big. You don’t need anyone’s permission. You just need to start — and let the dots join up from there. Share this episode with someone who needs to hear that building freedom doesn’t require taking huge risks. Spread the message using #PortfolioPower and #JoinUpDots and encourage others to stop waiting and start creating their own economy. Don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast and leave a review. Is Your Life A Bit BLAH? Then You Need The SPARK!

Is Your Life A Bit BLAH? Then You Need The SPARK! On this episode of Join Up Dots, we dive into something I call The Spark—that persistent inner feeling that there’s more to life than what you’re currently living. It’s that quiet voice inside you that refuses to die, nudging you toward something better, something more fulfilling. Many of us settle into routines that leave us feeling drained, disconnected, or just “off track.” Maybe you find yourself going through the motions, wondering if this really is all there is. I share my own “desk moment,” a simple yet powerful awakening when I realised that even though things seemed fine on the surface, I was no longer fully alive or engaged in my own life. This episode is about that first vital shift: awareness. It’s not about dramatic changes or overnight transformations, but about recognising the parts of your daily life that drain your energy versus those that light you up. Through honest reflection, you can start reclaiming your power and move away from autopilot to becoming the author of your own story. Wanting more from life isn’t selfish—it’s essential. And the fear of failing to change shouldn’t stop you from trying. The bigger risk is staying stuck in a life that doesn’t fit, watching potential slip away. I invite you to reflect on your own spark and share your moments of clarity with the hashtag #MySparkMoment. Let’s build a community of people who refuse to settle and are ready to take those small steps toward meaningful change. If this resonates with you, hit subscribe, leave a review, and share the episode. Your support helps us reach more listeners and keep bringing you content that matters. See you in the next episode of Join Up Dots.

I HANDED In My NOTICE!!

I HANDED In My NOTICE!! In this powerful and heartfelt episode of Join Up Dots, we’re diving deep into the real stories behind the downloads. Every week, thousands of people across the globe tune in, seeking clarity, motivation, and a path to change. But today, we’re flipping the mic around—sharing the voices of our listeners who are taking what they’ve learned and putting it into action. These are not influencers, celebrities, or gurus. They’re people just like you—navigating challenges, building businesses, reclaiming their lives, and drawing inspiration from the journey we’re all on together. You’ll hear from Jessica in the Scottish Highlands who, after years of living by other people’s expectations, finally took the leap toward a more creative and fulfilling life. She’s enrolled in art therapy, preparing to take a sabbatical, and discovering what it means to live on her own terms. Her story is a testament to what happens when we stop asking for permission and start asking better questions. She wonders if David, too, had to strip everything back to discover his real path—and how he knew it was the right one. It's a reminder that growth often starts with surrender. From Seville, Carlos shares a quieter yet equally transformational shift. Once stuck in the hamster wheel of overwork, he’s now reclaimed his peace by simplifying life. Inspired by our message to “control what you can,” he’s walking to work, tuning into Join Up Dots, and discovering that success isn’t always loud—it’s often silent, deliberate, and deeply personal. We also hear from Mohan in Hyderabad, whose job loss became the spark for something far greater. While uncertainty and fear took centre stage at first, the show’s encouragement to reframe failure gave him courage. Now, he’s exploring copywriting and voiceover work—leaning into his storytelling skills and, for the first time in years, feeling a sense of purpose return. On the business front, three inspiring voices take us inside their online journeys. Natalie from Wellington finally broke free from her 9–5, building a content writing business she once thought was out of reach. After two years of listening on lunch breaks, she handed in her notice. It wasn’t an overnight success, but it was a deliberate one—powered by clarity, belief, and consistent action. Meanwhile, Emily in Vancouver celebrates her first digital sale after launching a template store for creatives. Her voice beams with pride as she shares how letting go of perfection and following the "just launch it" mentality gave her the breakthrough she’d been waiting for. What’s even more exciting is that she still walks the streets of Vancouver listening to the show, now as a business owner rather than just a dreamer. Then there's Jake from Lagos, still deep in the trenches of research but already making moves. His business idea—to connect local artisans with global customers—is in development, and he’s conducting user interviews to build something real. He writes with a mixture of nervousness and curiosity, asking David how to know when an idea is worth pushing or when it’s time to pivot. That question resonates with anyone who’s ever stood at the crossroads of action and doubt. Of course, no Join Up Dots episode would be complete without acknowledging the people who aren’t just taking the lessons—but who want to understand how David built the life they now admire. Benji in Bristol writes with admiration and a touch of obsession. He’s reverse-engineering the lifestyle David now enjoys: time freedom, creative passion, and a deep sense of alignment. But he’s also honest. How do you build a life like that without falling back into old patterns? What mindset shift has to happen first? From Cairo, Ahmed reflects on the challenge of having too many ideas and not enough certainty. He sees David’s focus and wants to understand how to develop that same trust in a single direction. It’s a question many face when starting something new—especially when every option feels both exciting and terrifying. And then there’s Sophie in Hamburg, who found connection not through polished stories of success, but in David’s admission of struggle. She references a moment in an early episode—David hiding in the bathroom during a corporate event—and says that’s when it clicked. The power of vulnerability, of honesty, and of admitting when things aren’t quite right yet. That’s what made her believe change was possible. Each of these voices represents more than just a listener—they’re a living, breathing part of the Join Up Dots community. And today’s episode is about recognising that your story, your struggle, and your small wins matter. Whether you’re starting a business, shifting your life, or just figuring things out—you’re not alone. We’re all joining the dots, one decision at a time. So if you’ve ever thought, “I’m not sure I can do this,” listen to these stories. If you’ve ever asked, “Where do I begin?”—start right here. These aren’t fairytales. These are footsteps you can follow. And once you’ve listened, don’t keep it to yourself. Share your favourite moment from today’s episode on social media using #JoinUpDots #MyDotMoment #RealLifeRealChange. Tag someone who needs to hear this. Start a ripple. How To Sell Like A Master

How To Sell Like A Master Todays guest joining us on the show has over the past 19 years, he has helped 1000+ coaches, consultants, service providers, and entrepreneurs master the fundamentals of sales and close more High-Ticket sales over the phone. He is known as the “The One Call Closer,” and is one of the most recognized and in-demand sales trainers in the high-ticket space. The tactics and ideas that he uses in his One Call-Closer private training are techniques that took him 20 years to develop and that less than 1% of the population even know about. These techniques are also derived from him spending over 10,000 hours on sales and business trainings, courses, and seminars. Now that sounds amazing, and of course we all will be thinking that he was born with this talent. But in fact his journey to becoming a successful sales trainer didn’t happen overnight nor was it easy. He went through a lot to get to where he is today. He started his passion for selling at the young age of 13 where he got his first sales job as a junior sales assistant at the local furniture store. It was from that experience that he wanted to pursue a passion for selling and started this never-ending pursuit of sales improvement. Up until today, he’s read over 396 sales books and has spent over $128,563 on sales trainings and seminars. During his time at college, the Dean of Special Resources told him that he should drop out of school because of his diagnosed struggles with ADD/ADHD. It wasn’t the first time he was told to give up and quit and it will not be his last. However, that didn’t affect him and he wasn’t willing to give up. And that is always the key to success, persistence outworks talent, skills and anything else you think is holding you back from your future. So what is it about selling that lights him up inside, when most people struggle with this bigtime. And where do we go wrong, blinking at the pivotal moment of quoting our price, or something else? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Kayvon Kay Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Kayvon Kay such as: Kayvon share his belief that there is no single path to success, and everybody has to create the path that is right for them if it is truly going to succeed. Kayvon shares how so many people get confused with the systems against the strategies. Use the webinars, funnels, an email optins to create a deeper connection with your clients before you ever hope to sell. We discuss Kayvons childhood, and how his fathers advice could have held him back from the future that was waiting for him. Thank god he ignored him! and lastly…. We discuss how Kayvon spent $125,000 on self development and still failed - the reason was he hadn't proved himself to anyone, not least himself.

INTERVIEW: A Man In The Search Of The Sweet Spot

INTERVIEW: A Man In The Search Of The Sweet Spot Todays guest is a man who likes nothing more than having a laugh in both his personal and business life. Throw into the mix his love of inspiring people, communicating at a high level, and leaving a lasting impression on everyone that he meets and you get the flavour of what he is all about. Starting his career in the form of corporate entertainment, he would wow the crowds across America and on the huge cruise ships, with humorous commentary and magic tricks. He knew that he could be funny and entertain, but could he combine the fun with the message? Could he strengthen his proposition by tackling the issues that business struggle with, all the time still keeping to his authentic self. Well he has done just that by starting "Laugh-O-Nomics"....yep that's a proper word, and now speaks on a range of subjects, but loves nothing more to discuss happiness at work. As he says "Happy people have, on average, 31% higher productivity; their sales are 37% higher; their creativity is three times higher.” and companies are missing a trick. They haven't quite grasped the fact that people having a good time, keeping moral at a high level, and working hard is the best thing that every company can have on their premises. The days of setting huge targets and cracking the whip to ensure that it all gets done should hopefully now be a thing of the past? So does he find that the hardest people to bring round to his hugely valuable message are the middle managers of the world? And when did he realise that all his talents had come together to take him into the motivational speaking world and flourish whilst he is there? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Brad Montgomery.

INTERVIEW: Mark A Lack: A Man Who Is Outperforming His Own Identity

INTERVIEW: Mark A Lack: A Man Who Is Outperforming His Own Identity Our guest today lives his life by two rules. And these are two rules that by and large most people will try to keep away from, and then they wonder why they haven’t got their dream life. He believes that You can’t be afraid to take a risk. You absolutely MUST have a plan. And then if you know anything about him, he adds to the mix a huge belief in himself, a flexing hustle muscle that he demonstrates everyday, and an easy going nature that helps him reach out to the movers and shakers across the globe. As a young man, he had a burning passion to become a professional paintballer, and upon getting his first gun from his parents set out to achieve his aim.  And it seems that what he wants to do, he makes sure that he does its as within four years he had travelled the world shooting capsules of paint at people winning $300,000 dollars in the process. Even gaining the top prize of $160,000 in just one weekend. But at his core burned a question. A question that had occurred to him several years earlier, and had remain within him. Gnawing away. He asked himself  “If people can come from nothing and create insane amounts of wealth in one lifetime, then shouldn’t someone like myself coming from a middle class family who has the support from their family and lives in “The Land of Opportunity” be able to easily do the same thing?” Wow, for a fourteen year old kid that shows awareness beyond his years. He realised at any early age that comfort creates mediocrity, and pain motives change. And now after investing over $500,000 of his own money on self development, and spending time with the likes of Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield and even Arnold Schwarzenegger he is taking those personal skills and sharing them with the world with his Peak Performance Club. But how does someone at the age of 14 start thinking in such an advanced way, especially when it appears he didn’t have anything to force him to think that way? And where does he find the greatest need within the people that he coaches and inspires across the world? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Mark A Lack. Business Interview: Laura Roeder: Grabbing Success By Making Social Media Easy

Business Interview: Laura Roeder: Grabbing Success By Making Social Media Easy Today's guest joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast is a lady who boldly states. "If you are a small business owner who is feeling overwhelmed by ALL the different pieces of technology you need to run your small business, you are about to loooove me!" And certainly I have heard her name mentioned by many of the on-line luminaries of the world, who don't just loooooove her, but really like her too. She is the founder of LKR Social Media, where she used her expertise to help small businesses with social media and on-line marketing. She is also the founder of Edgar, which is is a tool that helps with social media scheduling and marketing automation. But more than that she is big on building a business that supports the lifestyle that she loves. She believes that social media is part of a new way of running a business – a business that is internet-driven (even if you don’t sell online), flexible, scalable, and provides you with a life, not a grind, which means that she can travel frequently and recently spent 3 weeks in India and 2 weeks in South Africa totally unplugged. But how is she doing this? Well she earned a degree in Advertising at The University of Texas, while teaching herself about web and online communications on the side. However when she graduated at age 20 she moved to Chicago to start her professional career, but unusually didn't then set into a decade of working her way up a ladder, just to find out that it was the wrong ladder. Instead with limited business knowledge she took the leap started her own company and the rest is history? So what made her different from so many people who wait with fear and apprehension till their mid forties before going for it? And does she look back at the hustles, and struggles with fondness, or a "Thank god I don't have to go through that again?" Well let's find out as we start joining up dots, with the one and only serial entrepreneur herself Laura Roeder.

BUSINESS. INTERVIEW: The Lady With The Magic Scissor's

BUSINESS INTERVIEW: The Lady With The Magic Scissor's Todays guest in an expert on branding a business to reflect personally your own identity. She is of total belief that the personality of a business should be linked intrinsically with that of the owner. If you are a serious and professional type then your branding you should emphasise that. If you are a crazy, fun loving person, then hey throw caution to the wind. As she says ” It’s time to Step in to YOUR power. I stood in your shoes. Anxious, afraid, paralyzed and unable to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I just knew the things I was doing weren’t it. After a life-altering experience with the birth of our daughter, when I stopped breathing on the operating table of a routine c-section, I knew it was time to make a change. It had awakened in me a feeling like nothing I had experienced before and with my daughter’s birth, I was reborn. I was ready.” It’s a common theme, that so many times  in peoples lives its those earth shattering, scary moments that really wake you up and helps you look for a new future. And that was the case with todays guest and as she says again “We only get one shot in this go-round. So I took the leap, I left my 10-year career and the safe nest of my alma mater and decided to launch my own business. Looking back, it was the greatest decision I could have ever made for my family and for my LIFE.” So how did she know what direction she should be going in when she decided to take the leap of faith and go it alone? And does she find the subject of branding to be something that is almost universally made more complicated than it actually should be? Well lets find out, as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Amber Lilyestrom.

BUSINES INTERVIEW: How To Market Using Emotion

BUSINES INTERVIEW: How To Market Using Emotion My guest today, on the confidence inspiring Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who at his core understands that true business success is built by making the experience that customers feel, as good as humanly possible. Take a look at all the big boys, Amazon, Apple, Virgin to name just three, all have a background on providing what will make the customer truly satisfied (even if the customer doesn't know they want it at first.) He is the owner of Triple R Marketing, where with over 20 years’ experience in Marketing and Sales, he has helped small local businesses and brand-name Fortune 500 companies alike become leaders in their industry. He has worked alongside world-renowned author and sales expert Jeffrey Gitomer, and has helped businesses promote their products at high-profile events such as the Sport Emmy Awards, although never once losing sight of the small things that make such a big difference to his customers. Such as the astonishing tale of buying a complete caramel shop from closing for business, simply because his customers loved the handmade caramel packs that had quickly became a key part of his business. When he got word that the store was closing, the entrepreneur in him kicked in. He knew he had to reach an agreement with Fischer to keep the caramels available for everyone and in January of 2016 he took over as the new owner of Joan’s Caramels. And if that isn't enough on his plate, he developed an app called Fanvious that allows food and merchandise to be delivered to your seat while at a sporting event or concert. And with the success of the app he has been featured on the weekly television program Inside Indiana and also spoke at the IAVM 2015 Arena Management Conference on the ‘New Technology for Improved Fan Engagement.’ So what is it that excites him most invention, or satisfaction? Is it the creation or how his customers respond to his work that gets him out of bed with a spring in his step? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr. Matt Rudelinger. Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Matt Ruedlinger such as: Why he feels it is so important to allow free-time within his business to be there for his family, which is a core value of starting his entrepreneurial route in the first place. Why being satisfied by the service that we receive as a customer is now the absolute minimum that we should expect from a business. Which makes it harder and harder to create viral word of mouth support. Why Matt loves the metaphor that there is a reason why the front windscreen to a car is a lot bigger than the rear. As it's only what's in front that truly matters in life. and lastly…. If you are going to close down your business then always think "How will my customers react to this" and if you think they wont be happy, then find another way of operating.

AMAZING STORY OF BELIEF: Ousmane Ndoye: A Man Born To Keep It Real

AMAZING STORY OF BELIEF: Ousmane Ndoye: A Man Born To Keep It Real Todays guest is a man with a fascinating tale, of hardship, persecution, and a burning desire to create the best life he could hope for. Raised in a small fishing village in Senegal, West Africa, as a child he endured abuse, profound humiliation and the breakup of his parents at the tender age of two This is of course is not what any child hopes for, and he found it particularly hard to accept as he looked around at his friends who all seemed to have the family life that he would have wanted. Then later at age five he was taken to live in a compound of more than 100 people, living in extreme close proximity to each other. It was here where he quickly learned to defend himself, and to develop the inner power that he needed to flourish in this unstable environment, where so many people fought for survival on a daily basis. It was a hard, brutal start to his life, but one that he wouldn't allow to determine his future. He knew that he wanted a life in America, and so at the age of 21, with just a few belongs and a gallon of water, he left Senegal, and amazingly managed to walk across the Sahara desert by foot between Algeria and Libya in six arduous days. He had his dream and he wouldn't give up on it. Well he did it, and even now many years after setting foot on the continent he is pushing himself to greater and greater achievements. He is the author of "No Excuses, how to pursue a better life and lift others for a better world", and his "Mile High Momentum" training platform, he is about as far away from his beginning as it possible. But what was it about the American dream that filled him with such hope from his life in Africa? And when he started that walk across the desert did he truly believe that he would be where he is today? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, the one and only Mr Ousmane Ndoye

Thomas Frank: The College Info Geek

Thomas Frank: The College Info Geek  Today’s guest joining us on the Join Up Dots podcast is Mr Thomas Franks, the owner of the College Info Geek, where he puts a totally different spin on going through the college life. As he says to the students of the world “You know that just going to class, getting good grades, and graduating with a degree isn’t good enough any-more. You know that being successful in college takes a bit more work. You’ve got the drive and the ambition. So where do you go from here?” Which is a fascinating point of view, which is very different from most peoples education experience I would imagine, whereby they base this part of their life as a self contained period. Get through college, get the grades, and then set about kicking ass in the real world. But success takes time, so what better way to hit the ground running than fine tuning and developing your hustle muscle before you need them. By doing things the right way whilst in College. As he says “This  blog is dedicated to helping you build a remarkable college career, which in turn will lead into an amazing life. This is not your typical college blog. You won’t find articles with 10 Tips to Win at Beer Pong or 6 Ways to Hack Your Laundry.  That bite-size, regular, boring content has already been written hundreds of times on other blogs. I’m not interested in it. This blog is all about winning at college.” And now he is certainly winning in his own life, and once simply a blog, this is now a lifestyle enthused by passion. So how did he break free from the college mentality that most people buy into, with parties, hangovers, and late nights crouched over the books?  And does he look at what he has created as the whole package or just the starting point to what he can now achieve? Well let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mr Thomas Franks.

BUSINESS INTERVIEW: Mining For Gold In Business

BUSINESS INTERVIEW: Mining For Gold In Business Rana Vig is todays guest joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast interview. Rana is a seasoned entrepreneurial professional with five successful start-ups in different verticals and a diverse 35-year business career under his belt. Having transitioned to the capital markets in 2010, Rana took two companies public, and these were the biggest Canadian venture deals of 2018. Curaleaf raised $520 million and was a near billion reverse takeover (RTO). While Harvest Health and Recreation was yet another impressive billion RTO. But our guest wasnt just going to sit back and rest on his laurels. How The Dots Joined Up For Rana Instead he started digging into the trends and started searching for a new market, which for many was seemed as old hat. Gold and mining came to the fore and Rana also took Blue Lagoon Resources, the gold-focused company of which he is the current CEO and which had one of the top-performing stocks for 2019, public in the following year. Outside of business, Rana is a well-known philanthropist and in November 2017, the Canadian Senate invited him to receive the Senate 150th Anniversary Medal for those who make their communities a better place to live through generosity and dedication. So why do so many businesses fail in the first five years of creation in his view? And looking back over his years is it obvious why he has built success, or is it simply being in the right place at the right time? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Rana Vig. Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Rana Vig such as: Why the biggest mistake all businesses make is being focused on creating income instead of looking for the biggest problem that they can solve. We reveal the truth behind the statement "Amateurs invent, whilst professionals steal" which can save you years of effort and expense. Rana shares his belief that most people spend more time trying to improve their weaknesses than simply focusing in on their strengths. and lastly…. How the most powerful computer the world has ever seen was built by something more powerful and underused.
