Your children must learn from you how to navigate division, confusion, and deception in the world. For example, where are you landing with the Candace Owens and TPUSA conflict? What do you make of Kirk Cameron’s belief in Annihilationism? Is Mark Driscoll a false teacher? Should we trust our Government? Do you want your children, too? Isaac and Angie Tolpin discuss these things through a biblical lens from 2 Timothy. Additionally, they discuss two areas they see the enemy’s strategy is right now in leveraging technology for his destructive goals, and the dangers of Christian celebrities erring who aren’t part of a local church with a pastor willing to hold them accountable. They give huge encouragements and warnings from the bible as they journey through deep waters in this important episode. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/courageous-parenting/donations

One of the biggest challenges for Christian parents is failing to follow through in biblical discipline as they raise their children. Don’t let that be your family. There are many reasons why there’s a lack of alignment and follow through in this area, discussed in this episode. Isaac and Angie Tolpin also bring a needed perspective to Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it,” that will be an encouragement to all parents. You can’t save your children, and ultimately they will develop their own relationship with God or not, but there’s a lot you can do to disciple them, and an important part of discipleship can be discipline, if you understand how to reach their hearts, encourage them to repent, and point them to Jesus in the process. If you want the 10 steps to biblical discipline and so much more, join Isaac and Angie in the Parenting Mentor Program at courageousparenting.com. The change you desire for your family is largely dependent on your hunger to learn and grow. The more you grow, the healthier your family becomes. Why is that? Because it’s really hard to influence people to where you haven’t been. So what do you want changed in your family? The next question should be, “how do I need to grow to influence the change I desire?” You have so much more influence than you might realize, but we all need to keep learning and growing to cultivate a thriving family in these uncertain times. Should Christians celebrate Halloween? Should churches adapt something different on that day? How should Christian parents navigate halloween? These are all great questions and Isaac and Angie Tolpin take you to the scriptures in answering them with a compelling argument on why we shouldn’t participate in Halloween but instead see the opportunity to stand firm in the faith and look different than the world on that day. For your children to exercise the muscle of going against the grain with you while they are in your home even when Christians around you are doing things differently. There is a spiritual battle and the enemy wants to perpetuate spiritual confusion. The enemy rejoices in 65% or more of Christians celebrating halloween. Christians should be saying not me and my home!! But are there ways we can be evangelistic on October 31st? Absolutely and the Tolpins cover those as well. Have you ever struggled with feeling like a failure or fear of failure, discontentment, anxiety or worry, depression, defeat, or discouragement as a Mother? I truly believe that what we do as Moms, serving our families, and discipling our children, is not only one way you can join God in participating in the Great Commission, but if you are a Mom, it is your calling to do it intentionally for the glory of Christ! That being said, because you are in ministry, the enemy is and will target you. That’s right, if you are a Mom, you are in a spiritual battle and have an enemy. God uses broken and contrite hearts in ministry (Psalm 51), so being broken vessels is the most useful to God, but we must not stop ministering because of our brokenness. Peter denied Christ 3 times, THREE, and then 50 days later preached the first sermon every given post Jesus’ ascension at Pentacost. God needs us Moms to be humble, but also filled with the Holy Spirit, courageous and resolute in our mission–unwilling to stop for the sake of the cross! When your children grow up and get married, it’s a glorious life milestone, and we get to witness our children grow up to move into the next season and journey in their lives, which will likely span their lifetime! It’s awesome, but the fallen world has completely influenced the reputation and expectations one has of the Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, so much so that none of us likely want to be one, yet we all will be one day, Lord willing. When I say we don’t want to be one, what I mean is that we don’t want to be viewed the way the world views these roles within a family!! Well, as biblical people, let’s reclaim this wonderful position and role in the family with grace, confidence, and truth! Join us for this lively conversation where we look at the role of the family parents when their children marry, leave, and cleave, as well as what the Bible teaches regarding what we could call one another, rather than MIL and FIL! Be sure to subscribe to the show to be notified every Tuesday of a new episode! Megan Tolpin and her fiancee Shawn come on the show with Isaac and Angie giving a behind the scenes look and perspectives as they’ve been living it out biblically. While they both were wondering if they were going to be able to find the right person, God had them both turn to trusting the Lord in a stronger way and serving Him with their lives instead of finding a spouse in their own strength. It was only then that the Lord brought them together, but they didn’t even date for three months while being friends first. Motherhood isn’t easy, but it is worthy, valuable, and important. Moms today are inundated with lies stemming from a secular worldview and many might even describe their journey in motherhood as drowning in unmet expectations and failures. Not only are Moms tempted to fall into the trap of these cultural strongholds but they are also being led astray into wayward parenting philosophies of the day, finding they had “traded one yolk for another” and are realizing that the pendulum swing is not a fun ride but rather leaving them bound to a new form of legalism called gentle parenting, conscious parenting, or the like which put a pressure on parents to fulfill a whole new set of expectations to attain the title of “perfect parent.” Join Angie Tolpin (mom of 9) and Abbie Halberstadt (mom of 10) for a lively AND HONEST conversation about motherhood, discussing many topics covered in Abbie’s newly released book, “You Bet Your Stretch Marks.” THIS EPISODE WILL SURELY BE AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO EVERY MOM IN ANY STAGE OR SEASON OF MOTHERING. Be sure to subscribe to the show to be notified every Tuesday of a new episode! It's still a good idea to have a meeting with the young man who wants to take your daughter on a date. It's not old-fashioned at all, in fact it's extremely helpful to your daughter, but only if she wants that. Do, or will your daughters have this conviction? If they don't you won't get the chance to meet with him anyways. In the age of rampant pornography addiction it's even more important! Isaac and Angie discuss the six questions every father should ask when he meets with the young man who wants to date his daughter. If relational discipleship isn’t strong in your home, you are likely moving towards pharisaical Christianity which will hurt your legacy. What happens in the home is the largest difference maker on experiencing a faith-filled legacy or not. Unfortunately too many Christian parents believe their being effective when God has actually called us to a deeper level of relational discipleship with their children. This episode will help you see if there are any areas you have a pharisaical home, or if it’s truly one of cultivating deep relationships with you, their siblings, and with Jesus. It’s also vital that discipleship is woven through the fabric of your everyday parenting. Here’s a warning: If you don’t reach their hearts early, it will only be harder as they get older when it matters most. You need their hearts to be able to continue discipling them well into the teenage years too. While it’s never too late, there’s also no time to spare as so many children from christian homes are getting lured into following the patterns of the world. If you want a thriving family in the future you will need to go against the grain even in Christian circles as you raise your children. Sometimes what’s best for your family is in a different direction than what people in your community are doing. For over twenty years the Tolpin’s have gone against the grain in numerous ways that they are contributing to the fruit they see today in their family of nine children. They discuss how to have the hard conversations and encouragement to do so. The reality of the pressures on parents to go along to get along, but the warning that we should always do what is likely to have the most fruitful outcomes in raising our children even if there’s relational cost with others. Could encouraging the creative side of your children better prepare them for their future that will be dominated by AI? Yes and we believe it’s required as it improves problem solving skills, emotional intelligence, creates more neurological connections, improves memory, spacial awareness, fine motor skills, resiliency, and greater confidence. Let’s face it, machines will be able to do many things humans do, but even better. This is part of cultivating producers versus consumers in society, people who are proactive in making their unique contributions and having a resilient mindset as they navigate a changing world. It’s a valid concern when you’re raising your children to live biblically with so many around you following after the world. Isaac and Angie give five keys to helping your children have a biblical mindset towards finding their future spouse. There’s actually no need to be worried at all as long as you do two things; firstly trust God, and secondly take action in raising and equipping your children with biblical wisdom on this subject. If you do things well your children will end up with a list of key things they are looking for in a spouse that they won’t waiver on. Navigating finances, vehicles, food prep and the hefty bills, almost dying in pregnancy and having more, to family dynamics that most don’t realize are possible. We hope this gives a raw reality that encourages others. Are you living in freedom to be authentically who God made you to be or do you put on masks when you leave the home or when you’re around certain people? You will become exhausted, insecure, and lonely if you project something different than who you are, but the real issue is that your children are watching. They will either adopt the masks you wear or call you a hypocrite in the teenage years and stop yearning for your wisdom. If what you are projecting to start a friendship isn’t authentically you, it will be hard to keep it. Isaac and Angie Tolpin dig into why we tend to wear masks at times and how to truly break free and live in freedom! If your children were asked what they are celebrating at Easter what do you think they would answer? Many kids will say “Jesus” or “Jesus rose from the dead” but do they know what that means and how that impacts them? Are they excited to celebrate Jesus or are they focused on the candy and Easter egg hunt? Christians fall all over the spectrum regarding whether they should call this special day of remembrance Easter or Resurrection Sunday. Some Christians would call others legalistic for not celebrating, while others feel a deep conviction not to celebrate. Join Isaac and Angie as they discuss the possible connection Easter has to a pagan holiday, the unique opportunity that Christians have to use this time to disciple their children in teaching the prophecies from the Old Testament and how Jesus is the fulfillment of those prophecies in a very real and tangible way. This is a call for Christians to recognize the opportunity that we have to “make much of God”, magnify His name, glorify and celebrate Him and what the Savior has done for us all, whether you are teaching holy week significant events using resurrection eggs, or celebrating a messianic passover. Isaac and Angie share 4 ways to help keep the focus on the Lord, encouragement for Moms who feel overwhelmed with all the options of ways to celebrate, and share some of their favorite traditions and resources they have used over the past 24 years parenting. Companies we love who sponsor the show:Voetberg Music Academy; is the online music class that children actually love and make progress with! Every Christian parent should ask themselves this question in a posture of being open to self-reflection regarding their home. Isaac and Angie Tolpin give a few challenges in this episode that are likely to cause even the most well-intentioned parents to think about opportunities for recalibration. The reality is, most homes are somewhat led by the children actually. Of course at first glance every parent would likely say, “That’s not our home!” well…you might be surprised at how this actually plays out without parents even recognizing it’s happening. It starts in the toddler years and perpetuates as children get older in most families, maybe even all homes at times. The difference becomes whether the parents recalibrate when it happens and shift back on course in a concerted way. But with most unaware of the depth of what they are allowing to be cultivated in their family culture, too many don’t recalibrate.  The statistics are starting to show dramatic evidence of this which often even leads to the whole family adjusting their theological viewpoints. Isaac gives a huge challenge to fathers at the end of the episode you won’t want to miss and the whole episode is full of practical insights and encouragement as you parent in these unprecedented times. Isaac and Angie discuss six specific things that people are thinking right now but not talking about in the areas of Marriage, Trump, Chickens, Church, Kids' friends, and their Relationships. Do you ever wish you could fully be yourself, say what needs to be said, do the right thing despite the costs, and build a biblical community with others willing to be fully themselves and really know each other? The goal is to open up discussions about these five things and influence change in these areas with the people around us. Sometimes, it starts with you being courageous and talking about the important things people are hesitant to talk about. Let’s run the race well with others, and help our families thrive, free from concern about others' thoughts. Be encouraged by this unique Courageous Parenting podcast episode. People feel more overwhelmed than ever, could it be what we are feeding our minds? What we saturate our minds with daily will contribute to feeling overwhelmed or joyful. Isaac and Angie get raw and real about their marriage in handling overwhelm with valuable practical insights. Technology can be incredibly useful but also has the potential for harm. Do we get rid of the smartphones or become more disciplined with them? That’s a choice for each family, but Isaac and Angie Tolpin make an argument that our children need to see us model self-discipline with technology and as they get older help them be self-disciplined in how they use technology as well while they are in our homes. This should influence your parenting decisions: Two-thirds of Americans claim to be Christians, but only four percent of all adults hold a biblical worldview according to the recent Barna studies. So what does it mean when someone says they are a Christian today? It certainly doesn’t mean there's like-mindedness. It doesn’t mean we automatically trust them, and it doesn’t mean their children are safe influences for your children. This is true even in the church you go to. We aren’t to have fear, but instead to trust God, but can He trust you? Trust you to disciple his children in the ways they should go? God is sovereign but we have an awesome responsibility in equipping our children which frankly, in reflection of these stats is going to have to look much different than what most Christians are doing around you. Peer influences are powerful and there will be times other adults are around your children as they get older. Children must know when to disobey authority, what’s appropriate behavior, what to do when someone tries to touch them in the wrong places, and so much more. Isaac and Angie Tolpin dive into how to equip littles, middles, and teenagers to protect their body, their eyes, what boundaries to expect, and overall how to navigate in today’s world. They break their direction up into three periods of time in your childrens lives where you will go from high directive parenting, to guiding, and finally moving towards coaching your children in the teenage years. You’re still the parents and at times regardless of their age you’ll be directing, but be warned, if you don’t adjust over time, you will cause the opposite of what you want in your relationship with your children. We believe Intentional Christian parents need to be even more protective over their children today. We have a birds-eye view of reality; with over 5 million podcast downloads we hear tragic stories from believers all over the world about harm to their children in places and with people they thought were safe. Check yourselves as you listen to what Isaac & Angie are suggesting. There’s plenty of messages about the dangers of screen time, the internet and pornography, but what about other children? What about older people around your children when you’re not with them? With 93% of boys and 62% of girls accessing pornography by age eighteen, we must be more diligent. Just because you are at church, with family, or those others are trusting, it doesn’t mean your children are safe. The world has dramatically changed in the last decade, don’t you think parenting must dramatically change in response to it? Be sure to subscribe to our channel, but also on your favorite podcast app too! Most Christian Parents would openly agree that they deeply hope that their kids grow up and want to be an active participant in the Body of Christ and looking even further into the future they hope their children raise their grandchildren in the Church. But how do you teach the importance of that to your kids? THe answer may seem obvious, you model it, of course; BUT when we look generation to generation simply going to church faithfully doesn’t necessarily cultivate a heart for God’s Bride! In today’s podcast you will be challenged and exhorted to evaluate how your heart posture is towards God’s Church, His people, and possibly even be inspired to be more intentional in having conversations that matter to instill the heart of God in your kids. If we truly change and obey the Lord and view His Church the way He does and we choose to practice the spiritual discipline of prayer for those leading and serving, our hearts will grow more and more in alignment with God’s vision and will –AND THAT CHANGES LEGACIES. Be sure to subscribe to our channel, but also on your favorite podcast app too!
